The boy turns and sprints away. His mother calls after him and Laura pursues. She catches up and tackles him, knocking both him and the case to the ground. Laura realizes to foolishness of the action as she hears the spirit's voice.
"Nine years you have walked this Earth, now this number is but three, each roll of the dice shall restore more of what you have lost."
As this new round of shrinking takes hold, Laura finds the boy, who she's still grappling with, seemingly grow larger. Thankfully he's stunned by seeing her reduced to smaller than him and doesn't press the advantage. Laura pushes off of him and snatches up the dice. The boy's mother soon catches up, eyes wide.
"Did you just get younger?"
Laura briefly considers lying, but decides to come clean. As she talks, Laura is dismayed by her new chirpy little voice. As she wraps up the boy, Timmy, speaks up.
"You're really a grownup?"
"Yeah and I wouldn't be this little if not for you," Laura sticks her tongue out and immediately feels silly for her response.
"Now now. No need for fighting. Timmy say you're sorry."
"I'm sorry for making you a baby."
"I'm not a baby!"
"If you're really an adult you shouldn't bicker with a kindergartener," chastises the woman.
Laura blushes at the statement and looks down bashfully.
"Ok there. No why don't we help you get to that magic store?"
"Really?"
"Yeah, you're hardly going to make it on your own. Here why don't I take the dice and let's go get you something to wear."
Laura hands over the dice and watches the woman place them in her purse. Laura then is taken by the hand and let back to the clothing room. Once inside the woman pulls off the remaining oversized clothes.
"Hey! Can't I change in private?"
"Don't worry I've seen toddlers naked before."
Laura wants to object but figures arguing isn't going to make her seem more mature. So she stands silently while Timmy chuckles and the woman looks through the clothing options. When the woman holds a pair of disposable training pants in front of her, she reluctantly steps in and finds the padded garment makes her feel even smaller. She's then dressed in a flowery dress, sparkly leggings, and winter boots. Laura is carried to the women's car, and buckled into a spare child's car seat next to Timmy.
"I never got your name."
"Oh, for now why don't you just call me mommy. We don't want to attract any unwanted attention so you shouldn't use my first name."
Laura begins to feel like she would have been better off trying to make it to the store on her own, but it's too late now.
