As Corbin opened the door he felt a cold draft of air fly past him. He looked ahead....for what felt like miles.
The room was colossal, several times larger than the main foyer. The path stretched out for 50 metres before ending at a cliff. The room didn't stop there though, it continued on for what must of been miles, he could barely see the end of the it. Then he noticed what decorated the room. Along the walls, was hundreds of cells. Each identical carrying on in dozens of rows and columns. Dangling from the ceilings were lamps, the flame still burning bright. Corbin was taken aback by it, with everything he had seen so far he never expected anything of this magnitude.
At the end of the path was a pedestal, as well as two other paths that diverged in a T-shape towards two other sets of doors likely connecting with the ones he noticed in the main foyer. It seemed this was the centre of whatever twisted asylum he had ended up in.
Corbin carried himself towards the pedestal, that couldn't be more obvious of an objective marker and looked down at it. On the top was a book leaning on the diagonal edge as well as small bell. To Corbins suprise there was also a fairly modern pen, sitting on the books spine. He though he was playing a mythological fantasy game, Corbin didn't expect it to be so advanced in time.
Corbin exanimed the book closer, it had the same inscription as the one on the arch:
"A Test of the Soul"
Corbin opened the book, on the first page. It was filled with inked markings of prisoners listed from No.1 all the way to No.56799. It listed name, date of entry, date of death and reason for incarceration. Except Corbin couldn't read any of the prisoners names or the rest of the information in fact. Only the topics. He tried looking closer but the text was blurred, not like the ink was smudged but he literally couldn't focus on any of the prisoner records. The ledger violently closed taking Corbin aback.
The room seemed to start getting darker, Corbin looked up and saw the brightly lit lamps were slowly dulling out. Until the only ones still lit where hanging right above him.
Corbin prepared himself for a surprise attack....but found none.
Instead the ledger flipped open again, towards the latest prisoner entry no. 56799. Corbin could see this one clearly:
Name: Makis Mastrotis (Minotaur)
Date of Entry: 15 minutes ago...
Date of Death: n/a
Reason for Incarceration: Dart of Musculus Low - uncontrolled growth.
Corbin gasped as soon as he realised who this was... The minotaur he had stabbed with the dart. The one he had ran away from was incarcerated here. But what did it mean by "uncontrolled growth", would he had suffered the same fate if he had been hit by the dart. The well of fear flowed through him again. IRL he felt the same chill wash over him.
Corbin looked towards the bell. Since this was a video game the only sane thing to do would be to ring the bell. Perhaps it would alleviate some of the mystery of this room. He had no other alternative so he rang the bell. The toll was louder than he expected, it vibrated across the whole room, echoing into the distant darkness.
For a moment there was silence.
Corbin looked ahead and saw slabs of rock rising to the same level as the platform he was on, it continued into the distance to form a crumbled path. He looked towards the other two doors. Perhaps it would be a good idea to check them out before venturing forwards. There might be some good loot there. Either way the only way out this prison was forwards.
