“Rachel runs a ballet studio for children,” Jack says, removing Jessie’s dirty diaper and wiping her down. “The youngest students she’ll accept are six. But she wants to make an exception for you. After all, she’s going to bring you to work. We don’t want to drop you off at a daycare when you can just spend the day with one of us.” Jack tapes on a fresh diaper. “I know you always wanted to be a ballerina. Now you will be one!”
“But diapy,” Jess tries. Jack pokes her nose.
“That’s right, you’ll be doing ballet in a diaper! It’ll look so cute, you fumbling around with a big bulge under your tutu, and taking a break from dancing to squat in front of everyone and mess yourself.” Jack picks Jessie up and brings her back to the main area. When they approach the table, Mom is in a deep conversation with Rachel.
“Hi, honey,” Rachel says. She holds out her arms. Jack hands Jessie over to her. “Jessie, I was so happy when Jack told me that you wanted to be our child, since we can’t have biological children of our own.” Jessie’s eyes widen at the lie. She opens her mouth to refute it, but before she can say anything, Mom pops a pacifier into her mouth. She suckles on it instinctively.
“The first time she was this age, she only opened her mouth for food, milk, or her paci,” Mom tells Rachel. Rachel chuckles. “I’m so glad you’re going to enroll her in your ballet studio. Jessie wanted to be a ballerina when she was younger, after all.”
“I’m more than happy to help her dreams come true,” Rachel says sweetly. Mom smiles.
“So,” Mom says, “what are you going to do with Jessie while you’re on your honeymoon?” Jessie’s heart races. What Rachel and Jack do might determine whether she can remove the suit in time or not.
