“No,” Jess says firmly. She’s going to hold it, no matter what. Mom sighs.
“All right. But don’t say I didn’t warn you,” she scolds. She picks Jess up and carries her into the area of the reception, then lays her on her back on a changing mat that has been laid out on a table. Jess blushes profusely as mom makes a big show of changing her completely clean diaper.
“Wow, Jess, you really had to pee, didn’t you?” mom says loudly. She takes her time wiping Jess down. Enough time that Jess’s hold breaks. Just as mom puts a fresh diaper under her, Jess pees. Mom is startled for a moment, then bursts out laughing. “You must have drunk a lot of juice, baby girl! You’re still peeing!”
A few people at nearby tables chuckle. Jess turns even redder. Mom removes the now dirty diaper, replacing it with yet another one, and again wipes her down very slowly. Finally, mom tapes on the fresh diaper. She sits Jess up on the changing mat. The sudden movement jostles Jess’s hold on her bowels. Her fresh diaper is immediately filled with poop. Jess bursts into tears.
“Oh, don’t cry, baby girl,” mom says, continuing to speak much louder than normal. “That was a good poop you just did!”
Jess is subjected to a third consecutive diaper change. She wails until mom pops a pacifier into her mouth. Once the third incredibly slow change ends, mom pats her on the top of her head.
“I think little miss stinky flower girl needs to go home,” she coos. Jess nods silently. “Don’t worry, you’ll be much happier at…”
