Information and Ground Rules

added 2 years ago O

"Are we the only ones here?" Alex asked. Best to gather information for now, he thought. He didn't like it but the likely best course of action was to wait for Cassie to wake and play with him. He could either try to escape then, or hope that she was telling the truth about restoring him.

"We're the only dolls, yeah." Anna replied. "The kids are more important to know, though." She walked to the fence and indicated towards the immobile, silent forms, like distant hills. "You've met Cassie and Jared, of course-"

Alex cut her off. "Tell me what he did to Sarah- wait, don't tell me, 'I don't wanna know', right?" He rolled his eyes in frustration, but the ball-gown wearer seemed unperturbed about his outburst.

"Well you do need to understand, Sarah didn't end up like that after just one session. See, we're available for all the babies, but they naturally tend to have favorites, and Sarah ended up being Jared's favorite. He plays rough- not so rough, after all she's still aliv- oh! I should tell you about our tolerance!" Alex shook his head in exasperation as she danced around to his front. "You already got a taste, but we're much more durable like this than what you'd expect- but we're not immortal! If someone really tried they can kill you, but..." She thought on it for a moment. "It's as if you kept your durability from normal size to this size, if that makes sense. Two toddlers pulling on your arms wouldn't rip them out of the sockets then, so they don't now, thankfully. It's not a perfect match though, scissors would be dangerous, but they're dangerous for kids so there aren't any here anyway. Oh, you can fall further than you'd think too, and you'll have an easier time breathing too when you- if you end up in certain... Places." Her cheesy demeanor faltered as she was likely remembering something related, as Alex noticed her gown was not without its stains.

Alex looked to the fence once more, wondering if he should attempt escape after all, an act Anna misinterpreted as curiosity about the tykes. "Oh yeah, kind of went off on a tangent. So, Jared is a... Rambunctious boy. He's one of the few we have here actually, a lot of people feel the 'dolls' AKA you and me-" She nudged Alex's rips with an overacted grin. "-Are too 'girly'. As if their two year old toddling around with a bathroom wrapped around their hips is the epitome of machismo. Anyway, that's why he's eager to play with you sounds like. Oh, but Cassie is too! Sarah is Jared's favorite, but I'm Cassie's; the baby really makes this place heaven or hell."

The teen raised an eyebrow. "Cassie is like heaven to you?" He asked, slightly incredulous.

"I mean... She's really smart. Like, she could probably skip a few grades once she gets to elementary school. Sometimes I even forget she's just four, I think she's a fourth or fifth grader even. We spend a lot of time reading and playing games, and snuggling..." She trails off almost dreamily, causing Cassie's older sibling to take a step back. "Ah, sorry, sorry! It sounds like she's really interested in you too, kids are always curious about the new toys, even her! It's kind of cute..." She put a hand to her face as he looked away.

"...She's my sister."

"Oh? Then-" She put both hands on her cheeks. "You agreed to shrink for her to play with? Aww, you're just the sweetest! But I don't think-"

He cut her off. "No! She tricked-" He bit his lip. It was embarrassing to admit that he had been so utterly fooled by his baby sister into being shrunken into a doll for her. "She...." He tried to think of a lie when music began playing, and the toddlers began to stir.

"Sorry, game time! I gotta go get Sarah and Jessie!" She said, taking off as fast as she could in the huge dress.

"Wait!" Alex ran after her, hand out. "Why don't we just hide out in the dollhouse, that way-"

She turned with a wild look in her eyes. "No! No, I mean, no..." She looked back towards the house and to him. "You don't know the rules yet, and that's fine, but it'd be just as bad as trying to escape to hide. Stand against the fence- please. They're especially harsh on the newer dolls, they don't tolerate disobedience." She explained as she ran off again, leaving Alex there.

"I'm not a doll-!" He gets out as she disappears inside the plastic house. "Most of these rules sound self-inflicted...." He grumbled, but begrudgingly stood near the fence, but not against it. He had decided to give it a shot, try to work out an escape plan outside of this pen, but....

A shadow looming over him interrupted his thoughts. That shadow belonged to:
