‘Actually, where exactly did these powers come from?’ While not the first time pondering the question, it is the first time Taylor actually considered the question and its implications. Humans just did not wake up with god-like abilities, regardless what some stories or fantasies will tell you, so where did these powers come from. And why was Taylor given them?
She didn’t wait for night. As soon as Maggie left, Taylor just wished for nobody to come into her room and bother her until morning, before getting to work.
“Here it goes,” Taylor sighed, “I wish I knew where these powers came from.” The pleasant tingle that comes with the powers doing their work did happen, but… nothing followed. For a brief moment Taylor was disappointed and wondered if she needs to look at this from a different angle, but…
It felt like getting punched in the gut, all air leaving her body in the most painful way, before getting yanked. Through the ceiling, up into the skies and beyond.
Up, up, and up.
The stars all blended together from how fast Taylor was being dragged towards…towards where exactly? From what she knows of astronomy, she is now ways away from her solar system, but…no, wait, were the stars becoming less?
Taylor looked around and saw that indeed the number of stars was rapidly dwindling, as it she was now leaving an area with a rain cell above it.
Then it felt like she smacked into something hard and fell on her ass. The lightspeed flight and hard knock left Taylor more then a little unsteady, dizzy and motion sick.
“Hmm, you lasted a bit longer then I thought before you sought me out.” A melodic otherworldly voice rang around from everywhere. She shot up, realizing she is sitting on something….rather, someone’s gigantic hand, as her eyes looked up and up and up…
It seemed to be a woman in shape, but Taylor wasn’t sure about that. Dark skin dotted with stars and nebules, eyes were pure white and glowing, hair a free-flowing and moving, glowing blue.
“But I am a patient one. And you have intrigued me, compared to some others.” The being looked around a bit, making Taylor look there as well – it looked like billions of galaxies surrounded them in an area of pure blackness.
Taylor looked at the giant again, “Who…and what are you?”
“You may refer to me as…Madam, sparkling.” The ethereal being chuckled, “And I…am the source of your powers.”
“Sparkling?”
“Well, I did gift you a bit of my power, a sparkle really. And you certainly did not disappoint.”
“But…” Taylor stood up, her legs still feeling like jelly, “Why me? Out of everyone on the planet?”
Madam pondered, her head titling, even if her hair did not seem to follow the motion, “Well, you intrigued me. Humanity is capable of good, neutral and evil. And many choose paths that appear to be opposite of who they are as a person. This intrigued me, so I decided on a little experiment.”
“Huh?”
“You were at a point in your life, where these powers would either bring good or destruction to the world. So, I wanted to see what exactly you would choose. And I have not been less intrigued since your change. Magnificent.”
‘So I’m a goddesses guinea pig?’ Part of Taylor felt used, but another…felt elated. Out of everyone on the planet, she was the one picked for phenomenal cosmic powers and this deity seemed to believe she was worthy of these. But now that Taylor knew of this, it begs a question…
“So,” Taylor looked up towards the goddess like being, “What do you want me to do with these powers?”
Madam smiled…
