Leah stays quiet for the rest of the shopping trip, even while they wait in line at the register. Tina admires Leah’s dedication to pretending to be a sleepy little boy in a stroller. When they get to the car, however, she discovers that Leah wasn’t pretending to be sleepy. Leah is, in fact, fast asleep in the stroller. Tina is startled by just how much Leah looks like a baby boy.
The illusion is furthered when she lifts Leah and feels her diaper squish. Leah must have wet herself in her sleep. But that’s not too surprising. Tina knows how small Leah’s bladder is, and how she refuses to drink things right before falling asleep just in case.
Tina buckles Leah into the carseat she keeps for emergencies, loads up the items she’s purchased, and drives away from the store. She stops by the daycare she works at briefly, but calls one of her coworkers to come get the things from her car. Those grunts are recognizable to her, but she has to be mistaken. Leah, still asleep, grunts a few more times, then sighs. A putrid smell fills the car. Tina wrinkles her nose. Her stepdaughter has managed to not just wet herself in her sleep, but mess herself as well.
Tina brings Leah inside. Without waking her stepdaughter up, she removes Leah’s clothes and dirty diaper, then wipes the poop and pee off, before putting a fresh diaper on. After a moment, she redresses Leah, but in a onesie patterned with dinosaurs, and tucks her stepdaughter into her bed. Just as she does so, she hears soft hissing come from Leah. She’s wet herself. Again.
“This won’t work,” Tina mutters to herself, looking around Leah’s bedroom. Either Leah needs to be punished for having so many accidents at her age, or she needs a more supportive lifestyle. Either way, Leah needs a new bedroom. Tina leaves to make some calls.
Leah wakes up hours later to the smell of Tina making dinner. As she sits up and looks around her room, her jaw drops. This isn’t the bedroom of a teenaged girl! This is the bedroom of a…
