Leah doesn’t say anything for a while. Tina sighs.
“I can’t give you what you want if I don’t know what it is.”
“A new diaper,” Leah mumbles reluctantly. “I peed.”
“Really?”
“I want to get back in the car, so I didn’t say anything, I just went.”
“Just pee?” Tina asks. “No poop?” Leah nods. “You can wait until I’m done, then.”
“It’s not comfortable,” Leah whines. Tina sticks a finger down the back of Leah’s diaper.
“You’re barely damp. I don’t change when a diaper is this dry. If you pee again, or if you poop, then I’ll change you before we go back in the car.”
“You want me to poop in the diaper?”
“You’ve already done that twice today,” Tina points out. “I don’t want to lose my spot in line. Got it?” Reluctantly, Leah nods. “Good boy, Aspen.”
Tina’s finally getting helped by a bank teller when she hears grunting coming from the stroller. Shortly after the grunting stops, a putrid smell reaches Tina’s nose. The bank teller grimaces.
“I think someone made a stinky,” the bank teller says. Tina nods.
“My son is a pooper,” she says. They finish up. Tina pushes the stroller off to the side and removes Leah from the stroller. “Did you make boom-boom for Mommy, Aspen?” she coos. She squeezes Leah’s diaper. “Oh, you made a big boom-boom!” Leah blushes fiercely. “I’ll change you…”
