Gail pushed her glasses up her nose as she now entered the teachers lounge. After grabbing her lunch the auburn haired teen had made her way through the hallway, only stopping when a substitute teacher had asked the girl why she wasnt in the lunchroom.
For Gail it was one of the annoyance's of being a child prodigy. Gail and her friend were only 13. Ever since starting their jobs all four if them had run into the occasional sub who thought of them as students rather than teachers. While somewhat embarrassing, the quartet had made their peace with it. Spotting Pam, Stella, and Ewart, Gail made her way to the table sighing heavily as she sat down to eat.
"Everything okay Gail," Pam asked.
"Just another sub thinking I'm a student," Gail grumbled.
"Had that problem earlier," Stella said. "The Guidance department has a new intern starting today. She actually thought I was the next scheduled appointment. You should have seen the look on her face when I told her she would be my intern for the semester."
The others laughed as they began to talk. For the quartet being mistaken for lost children was common place. The group had met when they were all 9 years old and starting college. The university in their wisdom had decided to group all four of them in their own suite while attending college. Since then the group had become close friends, having grown up together.
"Well it could be worse," Pam smiled. "Ewart had to ask one of his taller students to help him get something off one of the higher shelves."
"Hey," Ewart whined, his voice cracking. "My doctor says I'm due for a growth spurt this year." The girls giggled as Ewart frowned. They knew it was true, Ewart was about to sprout into a very athletic and cute teen. For now though they did like to poke fun at him for being a skinny kid.
As the 13 year old prodigies talked they paused as they now listened to the principal make a lunchtime announcement. The school would be holding a dance this Friday night. At hearing this Stella, Gail, and Pam sighed heavily their shoulders slumping.
"Dont tell me you wanted to go," Ewart exclaimed.
"Well we never had a chance when we were in school," Pam sighed. "I mean we all graduated college at 11."
"And it's not like we can go now," Gail added. "I mean how awkward would it be to try and dance with one of our students?"
"You guys could always dance with me," Ewart said coyly.
"Yeah bet you'd like that Ewart," Stella giggled. "The big stud with three girlfriends."
As the friends laughed and talked they realized something. For all of their genius and all their accomplishments, they had never really had a chance to be kids. "You know what," Ewart exclaimed. "We should all do something Friday."
"Like what," Stella asked.
"Well," Ewart said, running a hand through is dark chocolate hair. "Something fun, something adventurous, you know something reckless like our student's."
"Why does it have to reckless," Gail asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because we've always done what we're supposed to Gail," Ewart stated. "Cmon you cant always be a stick in the mud. Live a little!"
Gail squirmed in her seat as her friends now anxiously gazed at her. "Ugh fine," she groaned. "So what do you have in mind?"
"We could always see if we can summon the fox ghost," Stella said.
"I heard that story," Pam said excitedly. "The kids around town say theres the ghost of a fox girl up by that old witches house."
"Then its settled" Ewart stated. "This Friday night we try to summon the fox girl."
"Let's just try to do it before 10 p.m.," Gail said sheepishly. "My dad still has a curfew for me."
