David arrives, tired and his ears worn out by Jim's constant talking. If Jim had an ounce of awareness, maybe he would realize that people wanted to not be tired when they arrived at work and maybe Jim should let tired people sleep during a three hour drive.
The farm was green. At least that was a positive. But it was so huge and they barely had enough animals so most of the tasks were involving trying to plow fields singlehandedly. Jim being Jim did this on the regular because he was more brawn than brains. Maybe his stubbornness made him not realize how bloody painful this work was. David didn't know. He got out of the truck, getting some old trainers already covered in what he had hoped was just mud. The breeze was cold, but then again, it was incredibly early. He checked his watch, and the Chronivac timer didn't go off yet. It still had a few minutes to go. Annoyingly.
"Ye get to work now. Cows should be needin' a milkin'. Ya'll be doing that, I'll be checkin' the chickens"
Jim headed off. David noticed how far the cows were compared to where the chickens were. Jim, the bastard, chose the closest area while David had to walk past fields to get to get to where the cows were.
He started walking, hoping the Chronivac would give him something interesting soon. He managed to walk all the way to the cows, and knelt down to tie up his shoes. It turns out walking through several fields will unravel your laces, who would have guessed. As he knelt down, he could feel this invisible wave start to flow from the city. It wasn't painful, it just wobbled around him. It could have been the Chronivac or it could have been the wind. It really didn't matter...
...until he noticed something.
