"Go forward or back?" The game read. Jose squinted, his thick eyebrows furrowed.
"Go back? Can we go back to before you brought this stupid game?" Theo said. He looked at his Filipino roomie, who nodded.
"Yeah, ok, fine, go back," Jose said. But nothing seemed to happen. Until Jose looked up and saw the other two staring at him. "What?"
"You're changing, man," Theo said, pointing. Jose looked at the mirror and saw that he was changing. For a second he looked like his father, no, his grandfather...then it seemed all of the Spanish influence was leaving him. His goatee thinned out, leaving only traces of hair at the sides of his mouth, then nothing. His eyebrows thinned, becoming almost transparent. His cheekbones bulged and his nose widened, and his skin darkened as his indian ancestry took over. He felt the hair pull into his legs and arms, which got thicker as well. His chest pulled at his shirt, and he took it off, seeing the hair under his arms almost disappear. He could feel the same thing happening under his underwear.
"Whoa, man. You look like your ancestors did, man," Pablo said, in awe. Jose just nodded. He could almost feel his DNA running back up the ladder into its ancient memories.
"I wonder when it's going to stop, though," he said. His voice sounded different as well.
