Andrew noticed a vending machine in the arcade called “ARG Energy Drinks”. He was feeling a little bit thirsty and decided to grab one before he went to play any of the games. The machine had a notice on it; it looked like it was hand made by one of the employees.
“Notice to All Time Arcade gamers,” it read, “these are no ordinary sodas! Upon drinking one you will immediately start playing one of our experimental (and potentially awesome) Augmented Reality Games! These games will adapt in real time to your choices, and each one has a goal to accomplish! Try one today!”
Another hand written notice read, “Don’t worry about dying in the game. You’ll just reset at your last checkpoint if that ever happens. Of course, every time you die you will be given a permanent augmentation relevant to the game you’re playing. We call these augmentations ‘corruptions’. Some corruptions are mental, so uh... be careful!”
Andrew simply nodded and accepted the information he’d been given. He scanned the selection of flavors, er... games and decided on trying...
