As the days passed, Rachel began to associate the new name "Rainbow" with herself, as the employees, especially the beagle, kept calling her that and giving her treats when she approached them after being called Rainbow. With her babies born, she was nursing them in open view of anyone who looked, no longer having any sense of modesty or caring what dogs or people did on the other side of the cage.
Her babies were checked out by the vet when she'd gone into labor, and both were declared healthy, a boy and a girl, identical twins.
Quite a few dog families had come over to the shelter after a week or so, if Rachel, now Rainbow, could understand what they were saying, she'd realize that they were planning on selling her babies, and her, to different families. The dog families that visited were interested in one or two of them, but not all three, and Rainbow only cared Igor now that her babies and her were well fed.
The younger dogs thought her babies were cute, especially when they were nursing at her large breasts. Once they were weaned, they'd be old enough to sell.
