Dickie stared into Chad's empty locker. Rick and Bruno not only emptied it, they took the padlock too. He slammed the locker, and headed for the door to the parking lot. He had remembered that Chad kept a hide-a-key stashed under his left fender.
As Dickie reached the parking lot, he recognized Chad's car driving away. He was furious. First, Bruno and Rick change his big brother into a Speedo, then they steal his car. He fumed for a few moments then turned and headed for the ancient payphone next to the gym entrance. The school kept it there for kids whose parents were too old fashioned, cheap or both to get their kids cell phones.
When Bruno burst out of the building, Dickie was sitting on the ground with his back to the wall. The next bus wouldn't be by for another 45 minutes.
"Hey, Dickie, there you are! Sorry, your brother had an appointment, and had to leave. He asked me to take you home."
"He did?"
"Yeah, sure he did. You don't think he would forget to make arrangements for his kid bro to get home, do you?" Bruno lied.
Dickie smiled. "Thank you, Bruno. I wish Chad had told me earlier. I kind of panicked when I saw his car drive away. Say, what kind of appointment did Chad have?"
"You saw R-Chad drive away?"
"Just the tail lights really," sighed Dickie, "now where is Chad?" He suppressed a smile. He knew Chad was in fact hugging his junk and ass in the form of blue Spandex shorts.
"Taillights, " repeated Bruno with relief. Dickie hadn't seen Rick. He improvised, "Chad had an appointment, a last minute appointment, uh, uh," nothing to memorable or Dickie might still remember Chad later. Idea! "He, he got an appointment with a college scout."
"Which one?"
"Which what?"
"Which college scout?"
"Huh? Oh, uh, it doesn't matter. The scout called the coach to tell Chad he had to cancel, and that's why I am here. Was going to try to catch Chad because his cell phone is off, but missed him, so will give you a ride instead. If Chad calls - after he turns his phone on- we can explain. Uh, here's my car, hop in."
Dickie hid his smile, so he didn't notice Bruno learing at his ass, as he opened the passenger door. As soon as, Dickie was in the passenger seat, Bruno popped the trunk and retrieved a cooler loaded with canned beer, water and soda pop. Dickie was going to become another notch on Bruno's bedpost.
Bruno got in and handed the cooler to Dickie. "Help yourself to a beverage," Bruno said, "I'll take you home, but first I've got to run by my.house. okay?"
Dickie shrugged and opened the cooler.
