Matt reached into the bag. It was hard to believe those fingers were his. Amelia had an iphone 12 in a pink case. That was lucky as Matt had the same model. The name showing up said ‘Private’. “Hello” he answered in a perfect copy of Amelia’s voice.
“Have you got her out” Whoever it was didn’t say who they were. They assumed Amelia would recognise the voice. The director and Dave were close enough that they could hear what the mystery person was saying.
“Yes. We are just leaving. There was a lot of paperwork”
“Good. We’ll see you soon. Come straight in. I’ll have the guards keep a look out for you and have the gate open. Drive straight through. How is Melody?”
“She seems fine. Happy to be out. They are hurrying us now we had better get going”
“Remember what I said about bugs. I expect they have something stitched into Melody’s clothes don’t say anything compromising on the way home. We’ll sweep you for bugs as soon as you are back”
“Okay. But we really have to get going”
“See you soon. Have a safe trip”
The other person hung up. “Did you hear that?” asked Matt
“It sounded like Pedro” commented Cheryl.
“Yes” affirmed Dave. “I’m sure that was Pedro”
“I don’t think a cartel boss would be so concerned about people having a safe trip” commented the Director. Are you sure it wasn’t Amelia’s fiancé?”
A horrible thought entered Matt’s mind. They were big diamonds in his ears and it was a big rock now on his finger. “We need to go” he declared.
