It had been nearly 2 decades since the announcement but by all accounts it did take this long for the news to sink in around the world with many still fearful of what in ways it could mean.
See upon a private island, once part of a country but now officially independent by the terms of its new owners the former Donald Lawson and his wife and partner Amanda, now Lakapius and Argiala Mox, who had created a means of genetic rewriting of humans. These rewrites often offered pure immunity to illness like cancer, flu and motor neurones disease alongside repair of physical damage to bones and regain or gaining if at one point never once had the ability to walk.
The catch... in essence you became no longer human, those that accepted this are turned into Centaurs and more to the point are citizens of the Island nation currently just known right now as Centaur Island.
Also be aware as space on this Island is regarded as limited so until the Moxs agree to change this process to any and all off-island only those who pass these interviews done by their allies of the nations and their final say will undergo the process and as far as is aware... while it can be claimed one loses the benefits if done so there is currently no known way to revert someone turned into a Centaur or Centaurides and so far their has been no known rhythm or reason to those successful...
...some reports of entire household families interviewed but only some of the children getting chosen. Not to say contact is forever cut as human visiting is actually very frequent...
...a few stories talk of a few sets of prisoners from certain prisons being brought in and some actually passed and were requested. Though based on who you believe these successful were either murderers or petty criminals to first time offenders, one even claims a prison success was an embezzler...
...Not long ago a famous model disappeared and a tour a year later of human visitors to the Island reported to have found her among the herds. Some say she pleaded for help as she had been abducted but others claims she willingly abandoned the model life to live to dream and peace of a Centairide, some of the later even say she was now engaged to be married.
