"My favorite fursona is a red fox," you say sheepishly. "Can you ... can you turn me into one?"
"As I said," she responds with a grin, "there are countless universes and you're already a red fox somewhere, on a planet of anthro animals. We just have to put your present consciousness into one of those versions of reality." She opens the chamber door, motioning for you to step in. "I should have guessed from your costume what you wanted to be, but it's standard procedure to ask."
"Um, don't I need to take my fursuit off first?"
"Not at all! No known form of clothing can theoretically interfere with the device, and none has been observed to in practice. Besides, I'm sure the other your parallel universe counterpart will be thrilled to wake up as a human dressed as a fox. They are already in their clinic asking to become what you are now, after all."
You step into the chamber, looking down at your fake plush paws and your cloth underbelly one last time, hoping beyond hope that everything Dr. Nagato promised you is true, and that your life as an actual fox person is about to begin. A whistling sound starts up inside your chamber, then all at once a burst of light flashes through the chamber and blinds you. You're still standing normally in the chamber, but you do feel different. Your vision adjusts, and you find yourself looking down at the familiar form of an anthro fox. But this time, some aspects of the experience are very much not familiar. For one thing, the fur is real! You trace your hands through it, feeling the stimulation of your own follicles by the action. You rub your hands together--the pawpads are real! You spin around in a hurry to check on something: your tail isn't dangling lifelessly like a costume accessory anymore. It's thrashing around freely, and you can feel yourself making it happen. The tail is real! And so are the large pointy ears that are twitching around on your head.
"It happened. I'm a fox! A real live anthro FOX!" you exclaim, jumping up and down on your new footpaws. The chamber door opens, and you cautiously step out into your new world. A large anthro cat, wearing a lab coat, is twitching her whiskers and smiling at you. The doctor's an anthro too in this reality! Everything your human version of Dr. Nagano told you is seemingly true!
"Welcome, stranger," says the cat doctor. "How do you feel?"
"Well, I guess -- who am I kidding? I feel FANTASTIC! I'm a FOX! I've always wanted this!"
The cat doctor giggles. "It never gets old seeing people come out so excited about a life they went into the chamber to leave behind. But that's the beauty of this new technology: only a version of you that WANTS your life gets matched with your body to come out. I still don't know why our original version of you wanted to be something called a 'hue-man' just so he could dress up as his fox self anyway, but it's not my place to judge. Just takes us longer to program the machine for things we don't quite understand, is all."
"So, I can stay like this for as long as I want?"
"Yep! And you can try out other lives whenever you want, if you ever get tired of it."
"Good to know, good to know... Thanks again! You have no idea how long I've wanted to be a fox."
Feline Dr. Nagano twitches her tail a few times watching you make your way to the door.
