The Magic Shop

A Millimeter Tall and Losing the Gun

added by rockstatic A year ago S

Mike’s fantasies, it turns out, were not real preparation for being a hundredth of an inch tall. Using the stitch under the bow on this titanic woman's shoe to keep him in place, he finally fully understood what it meant to be a tiny person attached to a giant: everything they experienced, he felt a thousand times over. As the woman walked, climbed stairs, bumped into things, or occasionally hit her toe, Mike was inevitably confronted with a thrashing back and forth that made him feel like he was about to be tossed into the ether of a world several degrees of magnitude too big for him to comprehend. Constant thoughts of terror consumed him, as he was sure that any moment would mark his doom, but his waist was securely positioned under the giant stitch, and it didn't seem like he was actually going to fall off.

Still, this decision had proven a disaster, as his head was killing him and his stomach was so nauseous that he couldn’t go more than thirty seconds at a time without heaving up anything he had left in there. So he kept revising his plan, first from staying with this woman as long as possible to finding a way off her once she and this dude she's with sit down for a drink. Then he decided he should shoot himself with the gun, to either enlarge or transform himself, as soon as she stopped walking. Then he realized in a panic that he was starting to pass out from all the violent motion. He had a vague thought of reaching for the gun, but he faded out too quickly. Everything turned to black.

He woke up what felt like a week later, but he saw he was still stuck in the stitch of the shoe. Nothing seemed to be moving beneath him, so he eased his way out from under the stitch, ready to step past the enormous bow on her shoe and take a look around. But as he started to move, he made a horrific discovery: the gun was gone! It must have slipped away from him after he passed out, but now he had no sense of where it could have fallen off, and at a fraction of his own one-millimeter height, there was no way Mike or anyone else could ever find it. A chill went down his spine. He was a speck of dust forever.

He decided that he had to make contact with this woman. He would have liked to avoid her finding out about his existence, but he knew now that he would need help even to survive. With new resolve, he climbed up past the bow and looked out at an alien world leagues beyond his comprehension. He could make out tables and chairs in what looked like an apartment, but the dimensions were so far beyond his scope that he had to look down at his feet after a few seconds. It was almost too much to bear.

He took another look around with a bit more of a level head, and he saw that he was in the entryway to an apartment, standing on an empty shoe. The woman had evidently gone home and taken her shoes off. Right as Mike began to wonder what she must be doing, he felt a rumble that soon turned into loud thumping noises, and then he saw the most astonishing sight of your life, as this monumentally sized woman entered the room. As soon as he saw her, he did a double-take. She must be two miles tall.

She was a goddess.
