As soon as April opened the front door to her apartment, she froze when she saw the man standing in front of her. It was the fat man from the shopping mall, with the blue suspenders! The big, fat man was staring at her with a very angry look on his face.
“Shame on you, April” the man had said, in a deep, baritone voice. “So far, you’ve only used your transformation powers to torment your little brother, Garrett!”
“What? Who…?” April stuttered.
“I’m the one who is responsible for giving you and your three friends your powers. However, I must admit that I am very displeased with your usage of the gifts you have received for nothing. They may only be used to help people and not to torment people, especially not your younger brother!” the man explained.
“It was his stupid fault! Garrett is so lazy! He just sits around the house and watches TV all day! He’s a liar, he’s lazy, and he’s a spoiled, annoying little brat! He deserves everything I’ve done to him so far!” April discussed with him.
“And what have you done in order to help him, so far?” the fat man wondered, while pointing at the ten year-old boy, who was still floating helplessly around the living room while his body is hanging from the large balloons which were attached to his calves. “Couldn’t you make Garrett stronger? Older? Or taller? Or more muscular and athletic? Instead, you have done nothing more than to punish him for his shortcomings…”
“I… Uh…”
“I will remove the powers I have given you, and I will bestow them on your little brother Garrett, permanently!” the man announced in a loud voice. “Garrett will have the power to transform anything and anyone from this point forward…”
“Oh no… NO!” April pleaded with him. “Please… NO! You can’t give these powers to a ten year-old boy! He’s as irresponsible as can be!”
“So are you!” the man retorted. “Stand back, as I give Garrett his new powers…”
“NO! Please! Give me a second chance!” April shouted, as she almost began to cry. “I wouldn’t have a life, knowing that my little brother suddenly possessed the power to change me anytime he wanted to! Give me a second chance! I will only help him from now on! I promise! Don’t take my powers away! Please!!!”
The man sighed.
“Alright. Last chance. Next time, Garrett will have your powers!”
There was a bright flash of light, engulfing April in thick, white smoke.
When she opened her eyes, the man was gone!
She quickly turned around and wished for the balloons, which were still attached to Garrett’s calves, to slowly deflate.
“I’m sorry, Garrett!” she pleaded with her little brother, who was still hanging upside-down. “I won’t do this again. I promise!”
Garrett slowly lowered to the floor. When the balloons had disappeared, Garrett was laying flat on his stomach on the living room floor. His calves had returned back to normal again.
“I’m going outside for awhile…” Garrett said to her, as he got back on his feet again.
“Alrighty… Call me if you need me. I’ll help you any way I can…” she said to him, as he watched her little brother stumble across the street to the park.
April thought about what she was going to do to him next. She closed her eyes so that she could see what Garrett was seeing through his eyes. She could still see and hear everything.
“Let’s see what I can change about him, in order to make him better, faster, bigger, or stronger than all the other kids…” she chuckled to herself.
She sat down in the recliner. She had some time before she needed to go to the store. She decided to follow Garrett in her mind, while using her powers.
“Ahh… I know what Garrett will truly enjoy!” she cheered. “I have the perfect gift for him!”
What is April going to change about Garrett? And, how will she help him, so she won’t have her powers taken away by the fat guy from the mall?
