AN: Counsellor Taylor and Counsellor Brooke is a reference to another route of the Camp Ravenwood story.
With soccer having been something of a disappointment, you decide to wander around the camp before you decide what activity you want to head to next. You pass many other girls walking through the camp grounds, some having gathered in small giggling groups while others heading to their next activities. No a single boy in sight, and honestly its becoming difficult to picture any boys attending this camp at all.
Despite everything which has happened, you feel energised and ready for the rest of the day. You easily smile and giggle as the other camps you pass stop to greet or compliment you on your performance in the cheerleading or gymnastic activities, each reminder of them filling your body with joy and pleasure. Before as a b...boy, you never really were interested in sports and instead spent all your time playing games like... uh...
You stop as you realise your once expansive knowledge of video games which ranged from the top AAA titles to old classics to underappreciate indies was very faded. You tried to focus so you could recall some of your favourite titles but your head just got more dizzy the more you tried to think. Dark... Dork... Dork Soles? That didn't sound right.... but such a lame title seemed fitting for such a dorky pastime.
WAIT WHAT? Video Games weren't dorky. They're cool... and uh... well they're more for boys anyway... which doesn't matter because you're a boy! You remind yourself firmly, although your head's getting more dizzy my the second.
"Gracie?" came the voice of Holly from behind. You respond easily to the girl name and spin around to face her with a smile.
"Oh hiya Holly. Like, how did archery go?" you find yourself saying without thinking as the dizziness begins to subside, although its getting harder to recall what you were so upset about a few seconds ago... something about lame dorks? Whatever, you have more important things to worry about than nerds, like finding your next activity... and working out why're you're a girl of course.
"It was totally fun! No as fun as cheer practice of course, nothing can beat that, but still it was super-duper fun! Although Daisy did a lot better than me, makes sense since she's Counsellor Taylor's little sister, apparently their whole family are outdoorsy types or something." Holly gave a cute pout as she spoke out the last bit. This girl's athletic enthusiasm was quickly becoming a familiar sight to you, while at first you were off-put by how overwhelming she came across, now you're beginning to feel a strange kinship with her, as if you've known each other for far longer than camp.
"Well I'm glad to hear you had fun at least. Soccer was totes lame today, none of the girls knew how to play and so we just kicked the ball around for a while. I'm glad I didn't have to cheer for it since literally nothing happened."
Holly giggled.
"We have the whole day ahead of us. OH, how about we head to the lake early? Canoeing sounds fun plus we might get a bit of swimming in."
That sounded... fun. Plus seeing more of the camp grounds might give you clues to what's going on here. Rationalisation in place, you say yes and together you both walk down the path towards the lake.
A few other campers have always arrived, some helping prepare the canoes while others get ready to go for a swim. A counsellor who wore only swim shorts and a bikini strutted confidently to the centre of the dock and blows a whistle to get everyone's attention.
“Alright girls, listen up! I’m Counsellor Brooke. I hope you dudettes are like hella ready for a wicked time. But remember, in the lake what I say goes. No pulling reckless stunts or swimming out of bounds.” She spoke with a stereotypical cali girl accent.
As Counsellor Brooke returned to supervising the lake, you and Holly head to the changing rooms. At first you don’t know what to put on but luckily the camp provided you a one piece bathing suit with the Camp Ravenwood logo branded proudly upon.
As you tie your silky auburn hair back, you catch a glimpse of yourself int the mirror. For a moment you take a step back as a somewhat faded memory of that one time you were so engrossed in some RPG thingy that you walked into the part of the pool where the popular girls from school lounged. The embarrassment was still vivid even as the memory got blurry. A dizziness washes over your the longer you thought about that time… in fact you’re beginning to find the ‘popular girls’ zone weirdly familiar…
Shaking your head you suddenly notice that while you were replaying old memories, your body had shifted into a girlish pose in front of the mirror. Before you can return to a normal stance, you hear a giggle from behind you.
“You look sooo hawt in that Gracie!” Holly exclaimed. “I’m, like, so jealous.”
Was Holly acting weird? She had certainly been energetic during their entire time at camp but you can’t recall them using the word ‘like’ so much, or using the word ‘hawt’ at all… but the more you try to think about Holly’s speech patterns the worse your headache gets. Ugh, this is as bad as that time you drank too much at the after-victory party for the basketball championships… wait you didn’t go to that party. Only the most popular kids at school got invited…
Well duh, of course that included you. The whole cheer team got invited after all. Wait… no. Whatever’s happening is changing your memories again… you just need to.
“You okay Gracie?” Holly asked, which pulled you from your thoughts.
“Oh, like, totally. Just upset that there won’t be any cute boys to admire us,” you say what seemed most natural for the situation. To best sell the lie you pouted and giggled.
Holly seemed to buy that and the two of you decided what to do next.
