There is a town in the Pacific Northwest. It lies on an artificial lake created by a dam in the shadow of a mountain and not too far from the coast. It is called Littlewood and though few know this it was built on the point where two incredibly powerful leylines cross. Though few nowadays have the wisdom to access this power it has not grown weaker - in fact the growth of the cities and population on the West Coast have only fueled them with more and more power.
One individual, the last in a long family line of warlocks and witches, is nearing the end of their life in Littlewood. So it comes to pass that they donate their not inconsiderable fortune and knowledge to the construction of a new library for this town of two thousand. A library in the shape of an ancient and powerful rune that bespeaks possibility and change. The front of the library is carved with the name of the town and a simple motto, "Each book a life unto itself."

For the small town and even some of the neighboring towns and cities this is a big event. Food trucks are lined up and crowds are gathered. But the library is more than anyone but its creator and a few of the staff are aware. Each book is bound with magical runes and power, and imbued by the pouring energy of the west coast of North America they truly do contain lives. New lives for their readers. The spells and rituals culminating today will change this little place forever, but you do not know that.
You signed up early, and got your library card in the mail. It has the picture you uploaded, your name and a few more details. You glance at it before handing it over to the smiling staff member at the door and see...
