As the clock struck midnight, Regina Chung had finally finished grading all of the winter semester exams for her senior classes, and all of the lab reports from the underclassmen.
She was proud that the number of students passing her class had consistently been over 90% since the Great Change. Regina had no idea why this was, as previously the number prior to the Great Change had hovered around 53%. She hoped that it was her skills as an educator that made the difference, or that her pupils had discovered a passion for physics on their own. Perhaps in the wake of such monumental shifts to society, they wanted to know how the natural world actually worked. Or maybe they wanted to bone up on their physics so they could be the next Ilana Musk(Hopefully not the latter. Musk was a person that Regina thought was full of shit and did more harm than good).
If any of those hypotheses had been true, Regina would have been proud.
The Sorceress Supreme suspected though that it was actually the revealing outfits that she wore to work everyday that kept her students coming, like the cute checkered dress that she was wearing right now, a dress which showed off her curves and gave an unobstructed view of her cleavage. Savannah had bought it for her for Christmas.
The schoolboard had hinted that Regina's work attire was growing to be inappropriate, sometimes in not so subtle ways(A work colleague had walked past Regina in the hallway one day, and had called her a whore in between coughing fits), but the former man refused to budge. She liked being young and pretty, and she wanted to flaunt it. Not for attention, and certainly not for her students, but because she wasn't going to waste her life following the rules anymore like she had as a man.
Sitting at the desk in her study, she stared out the window at the winter storm that was brewing.
She had missed another New Years.
It was a lonely tradition. Regina hadn't been to a New Years Eve party in over ten years.
Impulsively, Regina walked over and grabbed a cute black winter jacket from her overfilled closet. She wrapped it around her body and buttoned it up.
"Sheena?" she called out to her familiar. "Mommy's going on vacation for a little while. Please don't burn down the house while I'm away."
The little golden dragon answered her master from her comfy little bed in the living room.
"I promise I won't. Be safe, Regina."
"I'll try, but no promises! Love you."
Regina then used her considerable magic powers to summon a portal, a gateway to another dimension. A swirling mass of energy appeared in front of her.
Regina Chung wanted to celebrate New Years Eve right for a change. No more quiet nights at home. Tonight, she was going to party.
