The Magic Shop

A heart to heart with Jacob and Connor

added by O A year ago AP O

Jacob groaned, easing himself into a chair as Connor now followed behind. The temporary adult son of the hunter not sure exactly what his father wanted him to do.

"Grab that bag of medical supplies for me son," Jacob asked as he now began to remove his shirt. Connor did as he was asked, quickly retrieving the supplies as he now watched his father struggle to remove his shirt. "Dad let me help."

"I ain't no invalid son," Jacob grumbled. "I've been taking my own shirt off longer than ya been alive."

"Dad will you stop being so stubborn," Connor exclaimed. "Just let me help you okay?" Jacob sighed, reluctantly nodding as his son now assisted him. "Mom was right you are stubborn as a mule," he grinned.

Jacob said nothing, allowing Connor to help him. As the now grown up Connor removed his fathers shirt he gasped in shock at his father's injures. "It looks worse than it is," Jacob said quietly.

Connor doubted that as he studied his father. The area where Jacobs arm had been torn off had been closed useing the ragged flesh that had remained. Unfortunately it meant that the area was heavily scarred, covered in more stitching than Connor had ever seen. He couldn't be sure but he was almost certain he could see the bones of his fathers shoulder hidden beneath the skin. "How many stitches did they use dad?"

"Over a hundred," Jacob said quietly. "Can't remember exactly how many."

"It looks like its still bleeding," Connor said in alarm.

"Drainage," Jacob said quickly. "Docs said to expect that. Trauma like this takes awhile to heal completely. They expect some leakage around the wound, especially if I'm mobile."

"So what do you need me to do dad?"

"Well," Jacob sighed. "I already showered so I just need you to help put the antibacterial cream on the wounds than dress them in gauze and bandages."

Connor nodded, studying his fathers shoulder as well as another wound along his shoulder from where the vampire had pierced him with a sword. As he now went about his work, he noticed the glum look on his fathers face. "You doing alright dad?"

"I suppose," he shrugged. Jacob now exhaled heavily as he stared at the wall. "I mean my careers over. Didn't think I'd be handing over the family business to your brother so soon."

"And to me," Connor added. "I mean I've been training to be a hunter too dad."

Jacob nodded as Connor went about tending to his wounds. The elder hunter giving his magically aged up son a small smile. "You're pretty good at this ya know," he smirked. "Ya might be better at this than your brother."

"Well I paid attention to this dad," Connor stated. "I mean your the one always going on about how dangerous this line of work is."

"True," Jacob grunted. The older hunter now paused as he watched his son carefully, still trying to wrap his mind around the fact Connor had used a spell to magically age himself into adulthood. The boy, now man, possessing a strong jaw like him with Ninas eyes. Jacob sighed, he had been wanting to talk with Connor about something, he just wasn't sure how to phrase it. "You sure you want to do this for a living son?"

Connor balked, giving his father an incredulous look. "Of course dad why, don't you think I'm good enough?"

"I know your good enough Connor," Jacob said quickly. "But I also know your much smarter than me or your brother."

"What do you mean dad?"

Jacob sighed as he now turned to face his youngest. "Connor," he said. "Look, I know you would be a tremendous hunter. I've seen how you've progressed but I've also noticed something ever since you were old enough to talk. You can do better than this."

"I don't understand dad what are you talking about!"

"Ugh I'm butchering this," Jacob groaned. "Okay let me explain. Your brother is a natural at hunting. No denying it. You too are an exceptional hunter. If you go down that path I have no doubt you would be a legend."

"I'm sensing a but here," Connor stated as he began to wrap his fathers wounds.

"Yeah there's a but," Jacob said. "Your a better student than Caleb. Its crazy but, I kinda hoped you wouldn't follow in my footsteps. I thought you were smart enough to be an engineer or scientist or something. Maybe be an actual doctor. I don't know, I just worry that you would waste your potential by following in my footsteps. Your better than I am son."

"But what if I want to be a hunter," Connor asked. "Would that disappoint you?"

"No," Jacob replied. "I'll be proud of you no matter what. I'm just saying you have more options than ya think. Don't become a hunter just because me and your brother are."

"I'll think about dad," Connor stated. As he now finished the wrap, Jacob glanced at it, a small smile now spreading across his face. "Nice work."

"Thanks," Connor smiled. "So, can I brag to Caleb that I'm smarter than he is?"

"Pkease don't," Jacob chuckled. "Your brother is plenty smart and I really don't wanna break up a fight between you two."

Both men now began to laugh, Connor helping his father to his feet. "Glad we could talk dad. Love ya."

"Love ya too son," Jacob smiled. "Now why don't cha go help Spark. Pretty sure she could use a hand."
