Lisa was helping Nina now finish up the last chores of the day, as sunset was going to be an hour away now.
"God damn it girl, I don't know how you could've lived like this for all your life." Lisa commented as she helped Nina with the animals.
"Wasn't hard really. Daddy never treated me no differently than my brothers, when Jacob came along he pretty much liked him from the start." Nina said with a smile.
"That's cool, what about your mom?" Lisa asked washing her hair off with the hose.
"What about her?"
"I mean how did your mom like Jacob? Or even you hanging out with Jacob?" Lisa clarified.
"Don't even get me started on my mamma. Let me tell you, she was not someone who wanted her little girl steppin' out with a boy like Jacob Moreland. It got to the point where she grounded me on the days we were supposed to have date night, just to keep me from seeing him." Nina said as she moved some hay with a pitchfork.
"Well don't take this the wrong way, but it sounds like you have a lot in common with your mom right now than you realize." Lisa said.
"You take that back or I'll take this pitchfork and get a torch and get you off my farm." Nina jokingly threatened.
"Come on Nina think about it: You don't allow your child to date someone their in love with, you think their choice of who to date is good, but not up to your standard, your child is going behind your back to keep close to their romantic interest, does this make you sound like your mom at all?" Lisa asked.
Nina threw down her pitchfork into the hay and sat down with her head held down.
"God damn it, I said I wouldn't, but I've become just like my damn mother." Nina said putting her hands on her face.
"It's okay, I came to that realization too once, but I decided to just let my kids be who they are. Regardless of age or anything like that, I mean hell girl, it's a new generation we're living in. People can date who they want to date, there's no real law against it." Lisa said patting Nina's back.
"Yeah, I guess I can tell Connor when sunset comes that he and Spark are allowed to date if they want to." Nina said as they both got up and out of the barn.
