Audrey opened her eyes, her nap interrupted by a strong feeling that something was wrong. Her warrior's instinct was on full alert. Leaping to her feet, she grabbed her sword and held it ready. Was it an attack? From where?
Then, she noticed the trees blocking the view from her window. Strange. She could have sworn she had a clear view of the road and stables when she first got there. As she puzzled through this, a hole suddenly opened up beneath the window, expanding outward in an even circle. Backing away, she watched in horror as the hole ate into the bed and furniture, all without so much as a sound and moving about as fast as one might walk casually.
Quickly, Audrey snatched her satchel and bolted from the room. Now, she stood on the landing overlooking the eating and bar area below. Several patrons sat at their tables, enjoying their drinks like normal. A couple of barmaids also went about their duties. Things almost seemed normal. That is, until the room door evaporated right behind her.
With no time to take the stairs, the warrior leapt over the railing and landed amidst the barroom with a thud. Of course, the other patrons stopped and stared at her rather athletic stunt. Thus, they were unaware that the wall behind them was gone.
Audrey opened her mouth to warn them, but the invisible dome of nothing had already reached a table of merchants. Instead of disappearing in horrific fashion, the three men simply blurred and reshaped. Without even a cry of surprise, the changes finished, leaving three beautiful unicorn mares standing in their place.
Finally, Audrey found her voice. Pointing, she yelled, "Watch out!"
Too slow. Even as they turned, the remaining two patrons and one of the barmaids were overtaken and transformed, leaving three more unicorns. The last barmaid had enough time to retreat in Audrey's direction. Unfortunately, the doorway had already succumbed, so Audrey vaulted out the window.
"Help me!" The barmaid shrieked as she also tried to climb out, reaching out a hand toward Audrey.
