"You do?" asked Selena.
"But first, I need to make sure of something," said Morgana, "Tell me, do you know if lycanthropy has skipped any generations in your family?"
"Lycanthropy can skip generations?" asked Tatiana.
"Oh, sure, quite a few kinds of magic has a tendency to skip generations. Happens all the time with wizards," said Morgana, "Selena does have the werewolf gene, but it's recessive. She may not even have a wolf to call out."
"So I'm hopeless," said Selena sadly.
"Not necessarily," said Morgana before heading into the back for a while. "Now where did I put it? There's just so much clutter back here, I never- Oh, here it is." She came back and put something on the counter. It looked like a small hairbrush, a hairbrush made of silver.
"Did you seriously just give a werewolf something made of silver?" asked Selena flatly.
"Don't worry, the grip is rubber and the teeth are tipped with rubber," said Morgana, "But rubber won't stop its magic from working. For this little beauty is the Werebrush."
"I think you're just mocking me now," said Selena.
"No joke," said Morgana, "There are different ways of becoming a werewolf besides hereditary. How else would new werewolf lines be started. I assume you'd rather not wear a wolfskin belt."
"Ew, no," said Selena.
"Well, the Werebrush should work for you. All you need to do is brush a true wolf and on the night of a full moon..." Morgana glanced at the calendar on her desk, "Which happens to be tonight, you brush your own hair and gain the power to become a werewolf."
"Well, that sounds good, except for one little problem," said Selena, "Where am I supposed to fine a true wolf?"
"Easy, at the zoo," said Tatiana, "There's a pack of grey wolves that you can brush."
"Except a wolf's not just going to sit still and let me groom it. Let alone the zookeepers letting me go near one," said Selena.
"It's a good thing you have me then," said Tatiana. Her eyes briefly glowed a hypnotic crimson, "A little vampire mesmerism and nothing and no one would be able to object to your brushing."
"So I can brush a wolf and finally get to change?" asked Selena with growing excitement.
"You may have more options than that," said Morgana, "You are currently a blank slate. You can use the brush on any animal to become a different kind of werebeast."
"Any kind?" asked Selena.
"Of course, you can only pick one. To undo the Werebrush's magic would be quite difficult and expensive," said Morgana before turning more serious, "But if you do want to be a different werebeast, don't try to brush more than one kind of animal. Mixing different animals can be...unpredictable. Not all bad results, but it's far more likely to be permanent."
"I guess I'll have to choose wisely then," said Selena.
Fortunately, being Tatiana's friend meant that Selena got the Werebrush for a reasonable price. Quite soon, the two of them were leaving the shop. "So, off to the zoo to brush those wolves," said Selena.
"Maybe, but there are other options," said Tatiana.
"Like what?" asked Selena.
"Well, we could go over to the dog park," said Tatiana, "Plenty of good breeds there for you to sample. Or to the pet store if you want to sample a cat or something. Or maybe out to the forest. You could be a werefox, a werecougar, or even a werebat. Wouldn't that be fun?"
Selana pondered this. She might not become a werewolf, but it allow her to be something unique. Even going to the zoo wouldn't limit her options. There were several big cats she could sample there as well.
