"You know what, Tats?" said Selena. "I think we'll head for the forest. It is a werebeast's natural habitat, after all."
"Awesome!" Tatiana cheered. The two girls jumped on their bikes, heading off for the lush wilds of the Washington forest.
They halted their bikes amidst the lush greenery of moss-covered trees that towered over them like skyscrapers. Selena and Tatiana could hear the cries of countless unseen animals, including, Selena thought, the howl of a distant wolf. It couldn't be her pack; the full moon wasn't for another ten hours. Apparently, wolves were still an option out here. Tatiana hopped off her bike and strolled idly through the mist.
Selena chuckled to herself.
"What?" Tatiana asked, scratching her head.
"Think about it," Selena snickered. "A hot vampire alone with a girl in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. Now, what movie does that remind you of, Tats?"
Tatiana had a good laugh at her own expense. "Watch it, Lena. Compare me to Edward too many times and I may just have to drink you dry, no matter how many times you flatter me by calling me hot. Twilight sucked major ass. Since when the hell have I ever sparkled?" She flipped her raven hair in mock indignation.
"Don't you worry, girl!" laughed Selena. "I hated that piece of crap, too. The author had clearly never met a werewolf in her life. Jacob just turned into a giant CGI wolf, not the perfect blend of human and wolf that my pack becomes." Now it was Selena's turn to indignantly flip her red ponytail.
"To be totally fair," said Tatiana, "most humans have no clue vampires and werewolves exist. If our classmates had the faintest clue what we were... yikes. I don't know about your parents, but my moms would give me hell for endangering the safety of the von Karnstein Clan."
"You know something I've always wondered?" said Selena. "How the hell do you even go to school with us? I thought vampires burned to ashes in sunlight."
"Normally, you'd be right," said Tatiana. "But my moms were kind enough to give my this." She pulled a golden amulet shaped like the sun out from under her shirt. "This is the Amulet of Daywalking. As long as I were this, the sun just sorta itches. No big deal. Of course, if I ever lost this thing, I'd be in deep shit."
"It's beautiful," Selena said softly, brushing her fingers over the golden amulet as it rested on Tatiana's perky breasts.
"Say," said Tatiana, "when you called me hot... were you joking?"
Selena blushed. "W-would that matter?"
Tatiana laughed. "You'd better believe it, Lena. I find YOU ultra-hot. There's nothing I wouldn't do to know you feel the same way."
Selena blushed harder. "My parents don't want me to marry outside the pack, Tats. You know that."
Tatiana put her hands on her curvy hips. "I also don't care. If you become any kind of werebeast other than wolf, you're basically out of their pack anyway. You'd be starting your own with your own rules."
Selena's eyes widened. It had never occurred to her to start her own pack. Actually, it made sense. She could recruit interested humans and use the brush to turn them. She'd be an alpha.
"Jeez, Tats, I'd never thought about it that way," said Selena. "In that case, yes. You are the hottest vampire I've ever met. Hell, the hottest girl I've ever met, period. And it's not just looks. Your entire personality's been a breath of fresh air for me. I'm one hundred percent in love with you, Tatiana von Karnstein."
Tatiana smiled warmly at Selena... and then burst into laughter. "Oh my god! We're confessing our love in the forest! We're pretty crap at not being Twilight, aren't we?"
Selena smiled and shook her head. "See what I mean about your refreshing personality?"
"Sorry if I made it weird," said Tatiana. "Love ya, too, Lena. A truckload."
Selena smiled at her friend... her girlfriend. "Thanks, Tats. That means everything. Now, what kind of animal should I brush?"
Tatiana shrugged. "Whatever you want, Lena. This place has wolves, foxes, cougars, bears, bobcats, deer, wolverines, lynxes, hawks, and owls. If you wanna get really quirky, there's things like squirrels, raccoons, mice, chipmunks, and beavers. And, of course, there's bats. Lots of bats. You know, I think that's my suggestion. Wouldn't it be adorable if were were a vampire and a werebat?"
