The Magic Shop

Nikki

Obviously, Nicholas was going to wear the informal, masculine outfit! He would take a T-shirt over dressing up like a little girl! However, when he picked up the outfit he’d decided on, he realized that it had massive holes in it. He dug through the box, looking for something else, anything else.

Bernard was too rough on his clothes. Every single item of the male twin’s was effectively ripped to shreds. And William’s clothing was far too big for Nicholas. It looked like Nicholas would have to wear Bernadette’s clothes. Thankfully, he didn’t need to wear her school uniform; the everyday outfit he chose was perfectly fine.

“I’ll need to talk to Melissa about this,” Nicholas muttered angrily as he slipped the pink dress on and pulled on the white tights. “If the children are to have spare clothing at my place, they need to be items of clothing that are wearable.” Nicholas buckled on the pink sandals that matched the dress and looked at his reflection in the mirror. Something was missing.

He still looked like a boy, just dressed as a girl. Yes, that’s technically what he was, but it wasn’t how he wanted to appear. Being found out as a boy dressing like a girl was worse than dressing like a girl in the first place!

Luckily, there were a few accessories in the box as well. Nicholas pulled out some barrettes with butterflies on them, as well as a necklace with a butterfly charm and a bracelet. The transformation was complete. Sure, Nicholas would never let his own daughter have hair this short, but some parents were surprisingly lax about that sort of thing.

Satisfied, Nicholas grabbed Bernadette’s spare backpack, loaded it with his keys, phone, wallet, and the dice case, and left his penthouse. Unfortunately, his ride in the elevator down to the first floor was not completely on his own. A few floors below, a neighbor Nicholas vaguely recognized got on. The neighbor beamed at Nicholas.

“Hi, sweetheart,” the neighbor cooed. “What’s your name?” Stifling a grimace, Nicholas opted for a name that a little girl might have.

“Nikki,” he said quietly.

“A lovely name for a lovely shy girl,” the neighbor gushed. “I’m so impressed by how big of a girl you are, riding the elevator all on your own!”

“Uh-huh,” Nicholas, or, he supposed he was going by Nikki now, mumbled. Finally, the elevator arrived at the first floor. Nikki strolled out of the elevator and outside, ignoring the adoring looks people gave him as he walked by.

“Mommy, that little girl has the same dress I have!” a child’s voice said. Nikki’s blood ran cold. He looked over. It was his ex-wife Melissa, going for a walk with the twins Bernard and Bernadette. He couldn’t be seen like this! Melissa had seen childhood pictures of him, he might be recognized!

Without thinking, Nikki ducked into the first building he could hide in, which turned out to be…
