Nicky’s eyes widened as he saw that they were heading for a preschool. And not one of the good ones, either, like his children attended. No, it was a public preschool.
“No! I don’t go to school!” Nicky protested. Elise rolled her eyes. She scooped Nicky up into her arms. “Hey!”
“Someone’s a real grumpy-butt!” Elise said playfully. She tickled Nicky’s stomach, making him giggle instinctively. “It’s definitely naptime for you!” Elise carried Nicky into the preschool. “You must be one of Lizzie’s new students, because I don’t recognize you. What’s your name?”
“…Nicky,” Nicky muttered, frustrated.
“Nicky! What a cute name for a cute boy!” Elise brought Nicky into a classroom. Sleeping mats were already laid out on the floor, with most of them claimed by other children Nicky’s current age. She set Nicky down. “Go lay down, Nicky. Time to sleep!”
Unable to escape with Elise watching him like a hawk, Nicky reluctantly walked over to a mat in the corner of the room, away from the other children. He laid down.
“Sleep well, kiddies!” Elise chirped. She turned off the lights. However, to Nicky’s frustration, she then sat down at the teacher’s desk and began to play on her phone. He needed to wait a bit before he could sneak out.
