The wizard considered the dog-girl in front of him. "Well, this is not going to be an easy fix. You're welcome to..."
Talforious trailed off, noticing a small crystal on his desk was rapidly blinking. He swore under his breath.
"What's that noise?" Ally's new, more sensitive, dog ears were picking up a high-pitched beeping from somewhere far off.
"Seriously? Now of all times? Our luck just keeps getting better." Alfred evidently knew what was happening. Kyle shot him a questioning look, begging him to explain.
"It's the authorities." the hypnotist explained. "We're technically trespassing, so I guess they got alerted somehow. It's usually fine though, right Talforious?"
Talforious eyes were nervously darting around the room, avoiding eye contact. He was clearly panicking.
"Alfred, you're just a minor misdemeanor, but this..." he gestured to Ally's hybrid form. "This could get me in serious trouble."
Kyle tried to look on the bright side. "Maybe the cops could fix this."
The wizard quickly shot that idea down. "Best case scenario, they wipe both of your memories, and take her in for experimentation. Worst case," He drew a line over his throat.
"Point taken. What are we going to do?" Alfred was on the point of hysteria. Everyone could now hear the siren.
"You three need to go back to your own dimension. I'll stall for time, and get back to you later." The wizard reopened the portal the three had come from.
"What about me though?" Ally couldn't stand the thought of being a dog for any longer.
"I'm sorry, but there's no time, maybe in a week..."
"A week!" Ally was horrified, and rounded on the wizard.
Alfred had already entered the portal, and Kyle was only a step behind.
"Ally, we don't have time for this. We need to go." Kyle implored his sister, as the sirens continued to get louder.
She was too angry to think straight, and yelled at her brother. "No! I do not have to listen to you, after you did this to me. And you," she spun back towards the wizard. "You're going to fix me now, or so help me god I am going to rip out your fucking throat."
"Ally, no!" Kyle's pleas fell on deaf ears, as Ally started growling like a wild animal. The wizard started sweating, noticing the dog-girl's razor-sharp canines. To make matters worse, the portal was rapidly closing, and the magical authorities would be here any second.
"Oh for..." Not seeing a better option, Kyle resorted to desperate measures. "Ally, be a Good Girl and come here!"
That snapped Ally out of it. She glanced at the shrinking portal, then back at the wizard responsible for her situation. She broke out of her growl with a humph, and raced toward the portal on all-fours, whacking Talforious with her tail on the way out. With a mighty leap and a loud bark, she barreled into her brother, pushing them both through the portal, moments before it sealed shut with a tiny pop.
Talforious sighed as the sirens died down. No doubt the cops would question him about this. He hoped the three travelers had avoided their detection. He was especially worried about the girl. If she started transforming in public, it would be a dead giveaway to the authorities. And in a magic-free universe like theirs, who knew how it would handle something like that? Then again, perhaps their universe wasn't as magic free as he thought. After all, the boy might have some unknown gift, if he was able to do something like that to his sister, with only the power of a simple magic item. He hoped his old friend Alfred could keep the two of them safe. Now, where was his scotch? After this disaster, he badly needed a drink.
Meanwhile, back in Kyle and Ally's normal world...
