Despite being forced into decorating the schools haunted house, Nat and her friends quickly found themselves enjoying it. It had proven to be alot fun, with the teens quickly coming up with various ideas to improve it. Tonight though, Nat and Rei had a job to do.
"Hi Mrs. Harris," the girls replied as Mika now opened the door. "Hey girls come on in," Mika smiled, escorting the teens inside. "Hows school?"
"Pretty good so far," Nat replied happily. "We've been helping build the haunted house recently."
"The haunted house," Claudia replied as she exited the kitchen. "Oh wow I didn't realize they were bringing that back. Let me guess? Ms. McKinnon."
"How'd you know," Rei asked.
"Mary was always a Halloween geek," Claudia smiled. "She even roped me into helping one year. Trust me when I say, its alot of fun." Nat and Rei nodded, watching as the Harris children now sprinted from the kitchen, the children excitedly running over to hug their babysitters.
"Well its not a bath night for the kids," Mika stated. "But Haley and Aaron may need help with their p.js. plus night time pull-ups. We won't be too late, just catching a movie."
The mothers now bent down, hugging their children before waving goodbye, Nat and Rei now leading the kids into the living room. Quickly finding a movie, they now settled down for a quiet evening, the children cuddling up with their babysitters.
Twenty minutes into the movie, Rei now found herself wanting a snack. Excusing herself, she now made her way towards the kitchen, pausing as she noticed a flash of light coming from another room. At first she thought nothing of it, until she heard voices. Now slightly alarmed she crept back towards Nat, casting her girlfriend a concerned look. "What is it Rei?"
"Mika did you leave yet," a voice called. Nat and Rei now stood, the teens nervous as to who could be looking for Mrs. Harris. The teens now anxious as they saw two older teens enter the room.
"Aunt Nomi," Kari exclaimed, the preschooler now sprinting towards Naomi and gripping her leg in a hug. Naomi chuckled softly, noticing the girls siblings now babbling happily as Naomi approached.
"Hi," Naomi smiled. "Did my sister leave yet?"
"Um yeah," Nat said softly. "Uh who are you?"
"Oh sorry," Naomi blushed. "I'm Naomi and this is my girlfriend Diane." Diane now offered the teens a polite wave as Naomi continued. "You must be the babysitters," she said, Nat and Rei nodding in response. Naomi now paused, giving the teens a curious look. "You guys look familiar. Do you guys go to West?"
"Yeah we're Sophomores," Rei stated. "I'm Rei, this is Nat." Naomi rubbed her chin, softly repeating Nats name before her eyes flew open. "Oh wait you're the damphir," she said excitedly. "Oh wow hi! Good to see you again." Nat blushed, offering a meek a thanks as Naomi continued. "Glad I caught you two, was hoping to see you guys again. Especially after what my sister told me."
"What did she tell you," Nat asked. Naomi grinned, her eyes sparkling as she looked between the two teens. "I heard about one of you finding something and I'm just dying to see what a real life majokko."
"A what," Rei asked.
"It means little witch," Diane sighed. "A magical girl. Sorry, Naomi is kinda nuts when it comes to these things. When she heard about it she insisted we check it out."
"Cmon Diane," Naomi replied happily. "You were just as excited as I was. So, which one of you is it?"
"Oh its not us," Nat said quickly. "That our friend Miranda." Naomi nodded, still gazing at the two teens anxiously. "Well, can you text her?"
Nat and Rei shrugged, unsure of how Mrs. and Mrs. Harris would respond to having a friend over. Then again considering it was Mikas sister, they considered it would be okay. Shooting Miranda a text, they were surprised as she said she would stop by with Amara in 20 minutes.
The pairing of Amara and Miranda had surprised everyone. For whatever reason the nightmare demon had made an impression on Miranda, to the point that Nat and Rei had caught the pair sharing a secret kiss when they were decorating a part of the haunted house. No one knew exactly how to handle the situation, simply thankful that Amara hadn't given them any nightmares. This resulted in Rei allowing Amara to remain human after dark.
A knock at the door now drew Nat and Reis attention. Quickly the pair now opened the door, surprised to see Miranda and Amara holding hands on the front stoop. "Hey Nat hey Rei what's up," Miranda asked.
Nat now invited the pair in, Amara seeming a tad uncomfortable as she gazed at everyone. "So whats going on," she asked.
Naomi now bounded towards Miranda, a bright smile on her face as she introduced herself before pulling her away from Amara. "So I heard you were a majokko," she said quickly. "Can you show me?"
"A majokko," Miranda asked.
"Magical girl," Diane stated. "We heard from Mary. Naomi is kind of an expert. She wanted to see, maybe offer you some advice."
Miranda nodded, withdrawing the tarot card and showing off the bracelets on her wrists adorned with a sun emblem. Naomi leaned forward, furrowing her brow as she studied the items. "Well the bracelets are classic majokko items," she stated. "Its always a small feminine item, usually a hand mirror but the bracelets make sense. The tarot card is a bit different, kind of a homage to Card Captor Sakura but its still part of the trope. Definitely interesting."
"Thanks I think," Miranda replied awkwardly.
"Now," Naomi stated. "Do you think you can transform?"
"Um sure," Miranda stammered. "But I'm not exactly sure how?"
"Well usually you have to say something to activate your powers," Naomi stated. "Then there's usually a dramatic transformation."
"Babe," Diane groaned. "It doesn't exactly have to be like a manga. Just have her touch the card to the bracelet. It seems more practical." Naomi nodded, happily agreeing with her girlfriend before turning towards Miranda, gazing at the nervous teen in anticipation.
Miranda fidgeted under the Naomi's gaze taking a breath as she now touched the tarot card to the bracelet, gasping as a brilliant light now enveloped her. The transformation was quick, Miranda noticing her nude silhouette quickly covered in the outfit of a magical girl. Naomi's eyes went wide, a bright smile spreading across her face as she gazed at Miranda. Slowly she now circled, critically looking over the transformed teen.
"Interesting," she mused rubbing her chin. "Its kind of a combination of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Sailor Moon. I know, I know, Sailor Moon is kind of retro but everyone knows the reference. Am I right?"
Naomis eyes now went wide, watching as the tarot card transformed into a golden rapier, the older teen now gently touching the shimmering blade. "And a Sun Sword," she said on awe. "Wow, that is amazing! Definitely more Nanoha than Sailor Moon. That's incredible, you're kind of a hybrid of all the different genres of majokko Manga! Have you tried to use your powers?"
"I don't even know how," Miranda stammered.
A grin like a Cheshire cat now spread across Naomi's face, this was almost too good to be true. Quickly she now grabbed Miranda's hand, her eyes wide as she now began to plead with the teen.
"Will you let me teach you," she asked. "Please, please, please, I promise to teach you everything I know about magical girls!"
Miranda fidgeted nervously, her cheeks flushing crimson as she nodded. As Naomi now squealed in delight, Miranda couldn't help but wonder what this strange college girl had in store for her.
