"Ugh, I just can't find anything useful!" Vivi groaned after an exhausting and fruitless hour of rummaging through her mother's shelves and boxes.
"Really?" Pearl asked sadly.
"Not for wereotters, anyway," Vivi sighed. "We've got all kinds of crap to turn you into a werewolf, a werefox, or a weretiger in stock. Hell, we can even make you into a wereweasel, of all things! Sorry, Mom gets stuff in stock pretty much at random. The magic artifact trade is kinda chaotic."
"Morgana mentioned a summer camp," Pearl suggested.
"You mean Camp Lutra?" asked Vivi.
"I guess," said Pearl. "What're they like?"
"Camp Lutra's a summer camp run by the four largest wereotter romps in Washington state," said Vivi. "They opened it as a way for their pups to socialize in an inter-romp environment. I guess I could call them and see if they know a way to transform you." The witch apprentice whipped out her phone and punched in a number.
An answer soon came in. "Hello?" asked a feminine voice. "This is Ottoline Rivers, director of Camp Lutra and shaman of the Laughingbrook Romp. How may I help you?"
"This is Vivienne Faye," said Vivi. "You know, Morgana Faye's daughter. I'm calling for a friend, Pearl Clearstream. She used to be a mermaid named Pearl Silverscales, but an ex-girlfriend cursed her with human form. She came to Mom for help, but she decided she'd rather become a wereotter than go back to being a mermaid. Unfortunately, we're out of stock on anything that could turn a human into your particular breed of werebeast. I was sorta wondering if you could help out."
"Of course we can!" laughed Ottoline. "About six years ago, the shamans of our four romps (including yours truly) worked out a ritual to turn our otterborn human children into full wereotters. It should work just fine on your friend. We enroll her name onto Camp Lutra's membership, and she can join us next summer."
"Awesome!" said Vivi. "Bye!" She hung up and turned to Pearl. "It's all taken care of. The local wereotters'll fix you up next summer. Now I'd better go touch up my makeup. I've got a date with Dani as soon as she gets outta school. You'll be okay without me, right?"
"Sure thing," said Pearl. "I think I'll go for a swim."
