Greg waited outside the store for Dan to get off work. He had been pleased when Dan insisted on getting and then wearing a toddler dress. Then again, it was the cutest item of clothing they had purchased that day. And Dan had been so excited about it, he wore it to work. Greg hoped Dan didn’t have a blowout or otherwise get the dress dirty. It was so cute!
After a few minutes of waiting, a toddler-sized person exited the store. Greg got out of the car to help Dan into his booster seat. As he did, he noticed something.
“Why is your hair longer?” he asked. Dan scowled.
“Some woman thought I was a girl because I was wearing a dress. She changed me with the app and left before I could tell her to turn me back.”
“So you’re a girl now?” Greg asked. Dan nodded. “Should I keep calling you Dan, then?”
“No,” Dan sighed. “Dani is probably better.” He, or rather she, sighed again. “Things just keep getting worse at this job.” Greg nodded silently as he buckled Dani into her seat. Already, he was thinking about the cute hairstyles he could give her and the adorable dresses he could put her in.
Dani continued to complain as they headed home. She only paused briefly to mess herself, then resumed. When she finally took a break, Greg spoke.
“It sounds like you could use some fun. How about we go somewhere?”
“I’m messy,” Dani whined. Greg chuckled.
“I keep a diaper bag in the car just in case now. I can change you easily.”
“…All right,” Dani mumbled. Greg beamed and immediately turned around. “Where are we going?”
