Ty's stomach lurched as the darkness slowly began to clear, but it did not completely clear. His feet found the careening deck of a ship, just as a bolt of lightning struck the sails, setting them on-fire to illuminate the darkness. It didn't illuminate much, the churning sea around was black as night, and Ty heard the voice of the first mate as he yelled instructions to the rowers. He was wearing what could be described as a sailor uniform, though a badge that marked him as 'Captain' was pinned to his tunic. He looked around at the sea around, briefly illuminated by the ignited sails (total of 20 on Perception check).
It was hard to see, but he thought he spotted a land mass ahead.
"First Mate Frederick," Ty felt himself shouting over the wind and rain "Land two clicks to Starboard! Adjust course and move ahead!"
"Aye Captain!" Frederick said "Get as many people to the row boats as possible! The old girl can't take much more!"
Ty called all the crew that weren't necessary to row for the island towards the life boats. When they'd left, there'd been enough for everyone on the ship to make it to shore, but he noticed a few had been destroyed by the storm they were battling. As the ship moved towards the island, with his character's sailing knowledge, he knew that crashing into the island would destroy the ship. He called everyone to the boats. Everyone except Frederick were now on the boats. Frederick stayed at the front, keeping the ship facing forwards as it hurtled towards the island. Ty shared a look with Frederick, feeling a pang of sadness for a character he had only just met, before he cut the ropes holding the boats to the side of the ship. They all fell into the sea, and the sailors began rowing furiously for shore.
