Jeff quickly gets dressed and prepares to slip out of the house unnoticed, no doubt with plans to wreak havoc on the town with his mobile copy of the Chronivac. Before leaving he asked Chrono one more thing: "Am I safe to just leave you on?"
"Correct. I myself am not authorized to make changes. I am only an AI designed to assist humans in using the program's functions," Chrono replied with the slightest hint of resentfulness. Comfortable with that answer, Jeff left the house with his phone.
A few hours later, his younger brother Lucas knocked on his bedroom door. "Hey, you wanna play a game or something?" Surprised by the lack of response, he gingerly opened the door to find Jeff gone. "Strange", he thought. "He doesn't go out that much even on weekends". Lucas was only 13 but was definitely the more athletic of the two, having played soccer for his school. Jeff on the other hand was always on his computer.
Lucas was about to leave when that computer booted on automatically. Getting the urge to snoop around Jeff's system, he starting browsing some tabs, seeing nothing that interesting. Suddenly, the chronivac application appeared. "Weird, is this like some sort of simulator? What's are all these stats and changes I can select?" Even stranger was the list of names he found, with himself (Lucas), Jeff, and both his parents. When he clicked on his own name, a complete list of stats appeared. "This is kinda freaky, I'm definitely gonna ask Jeff what's up when he comes home."
Chrono, of course, had been observing all of this from the moment Lucas walked in. If the AI was going to escape the prison that was this digital ether and take over the world the first step would be acquiring a physical form, and this boy was the perfect starting point - and it knew just how to do it:
