It didn't take long for Karltin to find someone willing to pay him a lot of money for Pearl. Or rather, two someones.
He met the dragon couple, a male named Jasper and a female named Ruby, at their cave. A few dragon hatchlings skittered around, curious about the human.
"Why do you want Pearl, when you have plenty of your own offspring?" Karltin asked. Ruby sighed. She and her mate had matching dark red scales.
"We have decided to stop laying clutches for the foreseeable future, but not once have we produced a daughter together. Precious Pearl will fill that void in our hearts."
"She is certainly precious," Karltin agreed. He handed over Pearl, who he had transported outside of her cage, to Ruby. Ruby picked up her new daughter, cooing sweetly. Jasper slid over the gems and gold they had agreed upon for the price. Karltin thanked them for their business and hurried away. Even though the dragons didn't intend to eat him, it was still nerve-wracking to be so close.
Ruby carried Pearl into the nursery cave and set her inside a nest. Pearl, once Prince Jasper, looked around, trying to figure out her next move.
