Why are there so many options? Manual Restore... Manual Undo... Automatic Undo... Jeff just wanted everyone back right away, so he hit the Automatic Restore button.
The effect was immediate. Reality blinked, and before Jeff knew it, his mother was standing next to him.
"Mom! You're back!" he said with genuine joy, jumping up and hugging her.
"Back? From where?" she said, laughing and hugging him back.
Huh? Jeff froze. Mom... didn't sound exactly like Mom. He leaned back to look at her. She was a woman in her mid-forties, but she looked a lot like Mom without looking exactly like her. Almost as if... hold on, she looked familiar...
"What's the matter, sweetie?" she said, looking at him with concern. That face... those mannerisms... her hair... she was middle-aged now but he recognized her.
"K-Kara?"
His mother grinned. "Since when do you call me by my first name?"
"Wait... who ARE you?" he said, backing away.
She looked at him sadly. "Your mother? Why are you acting like this?"
"What's going on? Where's Dad?"
Mom put her hands on her hips. "Now you're just being weird. You've never called Ash Dad!"
A few miles away, Kara's wife Ashlyn, her black hair in a tidy pixie cut and wearing a stylish blazer, leaned against the water cooler. "... and then he says, 'I don't know, I've been sick!'" she says, to the uproarious laughter of her coworkers.
"Ash...?" said Jeff weakly.
His mother pulled him into a hug. "Do you need to take a rest? Are you feeling okay?"
Downstairs, Jeff's older brother Leo pulled his girlfriend Judy into a kiss. Their lips connected briefly before she pulled out again. "What if your folks catch us?" Leo rubbed her back tenderly. "Nah, they won't notice", he whispered, slipping his hands under her shirt.
In the garden, Jeff's younger brother Michael walked back to the pool, where his friends Jenny and Kaylee waved to him.
And in the "tea room", Jeff's youngest brother Ricky had brought his friends Greg and Peter over to play.
"Oh man... this wasn't supposed to happen..." whimpered Jeff, looking at the different characters on his screen while his mother Kara stood back, her concern over her son's strange behavior growing. "What am I supposed to do?"
