As Stephanie now approached the mortuary of Life and Death, she couldn't help but feel nervous. Would Travis accept her apology? Also, how would his family react to her? Taking a breath she now knocked on the large doors of the Reavers home as she awaited an answer.
Much to Stephanie's surprise an Indian woman now answered. Gazing at the woman, Stephanie was surprised by her beauty. The woman looked to be in her early thirties, her skin a flawless mocha with long, luxurious, ebony hair. Curiously she now studied Stephanie. "Can I help you?"
"Hi," Stephanie said nervously. "Is, um, Travis here?" The woman raised an eyebrow before a small smirk spread across her face. "Oh so you're Stephanie," she grinned. "My baby brother has been pining over you all week." Stephanie paused, Travis's sister? Already aware of her boyfriends parentage, the teen could feel the color drain from her face as she gazed at the woman. "If you're his sister? Does that mean...."
"That I'm a God? Yes," she grinned. Stephanie gulped, the womans eyes beginning to glow red. Slowly two additional arms now emerged from the womans body, the woman striking a pose as she leaned forward. Stephanie noticing her smile as a pair of fangs emerged. "The name is Kali. The Hindu goddess of Death."
Stephanie balked, unsure what to say as Kali grinned at her. She wasn't familiar with Hindu deities but Kali certainly appeared to be quite intimidating. Hopefully Travis hadn't said anything negative about her. "Kali who's at the door?" Stephanie and Kali now turned watching as Life and Death now emerged from a side room. Life sighed, shaking her head as she quickly approached. "Kali stop trying to frighten the poor girl," she groaned.
Kali shrugged, her mother now escorting Stephanie in as both Life and Death apologized. "Stephanie so good to see you," Life smiled. "So sorry about Kali, she can be a bit protective of her little brother."
"She forgets what it's like to be young," Death replied. "You should have seen her though when one of her boyfriends would come over. She would get so embarrassed when either me or her siblings would interrogate the poor boy."
"Ugh seriously Dad," Kali groaned. "Why do you have to bring up my dates. Didn't you guys embarrass me enough? All of you frightened my dates off for over a millennium!" Stephanie paused, noting the goddess blush at her parents actions. It struck Stephanie as odd that despite being divine beings, they still dealt with parental embarrassment. Life now escorted Stephanie inside, Kali narrowing her eyes as she trailed behind.
"So I take it you came to talk with Travis," Life stated, to which Stephanie nodded. "I thought so, after everything that happened I could sense just how upset the two of you were."
"Yeah I messed up," Stephanie sighed. "I'm so sorry. Travis is such a great guy." Life smiled, patting the teens shoulder. "Mistakes happen," she said softly. "After all, the two of you are only human. But my husband and I can sense you both care for eachother deeply. I do hope you can patch things up." As they now approached Travis's room, Life knocked softly opening the door to check on her teenage son. "Travis someone is here to see you."
As Stephanie gazed into Travis's room, she was surprised to see just how ordinary it seemed. The teens room was decorated in typical teenage fashion, a sturdy twin bed with various posters along the walls. Travis, it appeared, was now sullenly playing video games as she stared at a TV screen. Hearing his mother call, the teen perked up as he nervously gazed at Stephanie. "Stephanie," he stammered. "Wha..what are you doing here?"
Stephanie fidgeted in place, she wanted to apologize but wasn't sure how to phrase it. "She wanted to talk with you baby brother," Kali stated. "But if she's bothering you, I can get my khadga."
"What no," Travis exclaimed. "Geez Kali she's not a demon!" Kali shrugged, still eyeballing Stephanie as the two teens awkwardly gazed at one another. "Sorry about Kali," Travis blushed. "She's um..kind of protective."
"No it's okay," Stephanie replied nervously. "I'm sorry too. I was...kind of a jerk. It's cool you have a big sister who looks out for you."
"Yeah Kali is cool," Travis smiled. "Shes definitely more chill than Thanatos and Hela. Those two probably would of stopped you at the door." Stephanie laughed nervously, Travis's siblings were going to some time getting used to. "Okay you two," Kali stated. "Like every goddess I appreciate the kind words but we're focusing on you two. Get yourself ready baby brother, I'm taking you two for lunch. My treat."
"What wait," Travis said quickly. "Kali you don't have to do that."
"Yes I do," Kali retorted. "I've been here a week and all I've seen you do is mope around like a puppy because you thought this girl was mad at you. I want to get to know her and see what makes her so special to my baby brother." Travis sighed, his shoulders slumping as he now gazed at Stephanie. "Okay fine."
As Kali grinned, ushering the pair out, Stephanie was left wondering what lunch with her boyfriend amd a goddess could possibly be like.
