"I have some errands to run, then we're going to go for a walk" Beth told her seemingly obedient new pet. She then produced a collar as if from nowhere with 'Melanie' written on it along with Beth's address. She placed it around Melanie's neck "just in case you decide to go scampering off. Just know that you will be returned to me and I won't be very happy. Bark if you understand.
Again Melanie had no choice but to bark.
"Good, now wag that tail of yours like a happy little doggy!"
This was beyond humiliating for Melanie but again she had no choice but to comply.
"What a good little doggy you are Mel" Beth ruffled her former roommates head "I'm going to the pet shop to get you a nice bowl, some yummy dog food and maybe even a nice chew toy to play with. Make sure you behave yourself and stay clear of my room okay?"
As the witch left Melanie trotted over to the nearest mirror to find a regular looking dog staring back her. It was a surreal and terrifying moment. If this witch bitch could transform her at will there was no way she was sticking around. She had no trust that, even if she behaved like a perfectly trained canine for a week, Beth would turn her back. Maybe she would turn Melanie into something even worse than a dog. She had to find a way to reverse the spell and escape.
Melanie scurried up the stairs and noted that the door to Beth's room was ajar. She had to at least have a snoop around. Entering the forbidden room there was a thick black book on Beth's desk. She climbed onto the chair then up to the desk where she sat beside the giant tome. It was labelled 'Complete Compendium of Spells'. It wasn't easy, but using her paws and occasionally her tongue Melanie was able to open the book and flick through the pages. There were a lot of spells with very little explanation beyond the chapter titles. She scanned the titles in the index: Curses, Love Spells, Enchantment, Possession, Transformation, Self Transformation...Melanie quickly made her way to the self transformation section. Her heart sank. There were a ton of spells but she had no clue what any of them did or which one would make her human again. The words looked pronounceable (if she were still human at least) but it was like they were written in a language she didn't understand. The best she could do was guess and hope for the best.
Another problem was that she could not speak the words, but maybe if she thought them mentally it could still work. She figured that if she didn't want to spend the rest of her life as a witches' play toy she had to at least try. She picked the first spell on the list, hoping that would be an all purpose reverse spell, and read it with her mind.
