As Ty was preoccupied with his strange changes, he almost missed Oaklin grabbing a sharp branch and trying to stab Kayera. He moved between him and her.
"Move," Oaklin said "I have no quarrel with you, just with her."
"She has a name," Ty said "And you haven't said two words to her since we were captured.
"Her kind are no better than the monsters," Oaklin spat on the ground "Killing her is no different from eliminating a stain against our purity as a race."
"Do you hear yourself?" Ty asked "No. I'm not going to let you kill her."
"Very well," Oaklin said "I didn't want to do this, but it seems I must go through you to get to her."
Without Ty even doing anything, part of his armour turned back into chains, whipping out and knocking the branch from Oaklin's hands.
"We're on the same side," Ty said "At least until we can get back to a town or city."
Oaklin reluctantly stood down, dropping the stick to the ground, then retreated to the fire.
Ty checked on Kayera, who was still sweating from exposure to the sun.
"She has a fever, we need to cool her down," Ty said "Is there a stream nearby?"
"I hear water somewhere," Argenti said, as she finished building the fire "I think I could lead you to the river if you think you could carry her."
Ty experimentally tried to lift Kayera, finding her surprisingly lightweight.
"Lead on," Ty said "Oaklin, can you keep an eye on the fire?"
Oaklin nodded.
