Dukes daring escape

added by O A year ago BM Mythological

Pulling to the side, Adam and Duke switched allowing the dhamphir to once more drive. "Sasha is not going to be happy," Duke sighed, gazing at the bullet holes to his car. Before anyone could respond, the squeal of tires and a shot rang out through the night. Duke flinched, watching the back windshield explode. "Damn these guys are persistent," he exclaimed. Leaping into the front seat, Duke shifted the old Charger into first, the wheels spinning out as he sped down the road.

"How many," Caleb asked, the young hunter unable to turn as he was crammed in the backseat. Duke glanced in the rear view mirror, grimacing as he counted five sets of headlights. "Five," he said. "And their closing quick." Caleb nodded, quickly digging into his coat pockets before frowning. "Running low," he frowned, turning his gaze to Wyatt. "Wasn't expecting to fight a hit squad." Wyatt returned his gaze, the vampire snarling. "Dont blame me for this mess Moreland. Prepare better next time."

"Can you two kill eachother later," Duke exclaimed, watching the shoving match between his brother and his friend. "They're closing fast!" Everyone craned their necks, trying to get a better look as two black SUVS now crept on either side, attempting to pin the car. Anxiously Duke glanced at both vehicles, realizing the occupants were trying to disable the car. His best hope was to outrun them, but he needed space. "Ann, Ken," Wyatt ordered.

Ann and Ken nodded, the blind swordsman reaching between his legs to unsheath his katana. With ease the swordsman jammed the sword into the vehicle on his side, slashing the right front tire. Quickly the car lost control, flipping and crashing into a telephone pole. Ann scoffed, darting forward as she grabbed something from Caleb pocket. Duke watched as the child vampire now held a silver stake, her small hand beginning to smoke from being in contact with the silver. Still, her face remained emotionless, if it hurt she didn’t show it. Crawling over the mass of people in the back like some sort of spider, the vampire stuck her upper half out the window.

Duke watched as the car on his right began to swerve, Ann had thrown the stake through the driver's side, windshield striking the driver. Duke watched in the rear view mirror as the vehicle lost control before slamming into a parked car and bursting into flames. "Two down three to go," Adam stated as he gazed back at their pursuers. Thankfully for Duke, the remaining three SUVS were a ways back but they were close enough to follow. "We need to lose them," Duke exclaimed. "Caleb, how far are we from S.P.E.A.R?"

"I'd say 15 maybe 20 minutes," he replied. "Don't tell me you're going to lead them back there?" Duke shook his head, he wasn't going to do that but he was certainly going to lose them. Shifting into third gear, the Charger shot forward as Duke began to attempt to lose his pursuers.

Turning quickly down a side street, Duke began to swerve in between vehicles on order to lose his tail. Whoever these drivers were, they were good, able to keep pace with Duke. Although they weren't able to close the distance, Duke was unable to lose them as they seemed to manage to mirror his every move. "They're still back there," Wyatt exclaimed. "Do something!" Duke grit his teeth, turning hard onto a main road. There was a draw bridge not too far with any area he was more familiar with. If he could just get there he had an idea of where the group could hide. As he shifted from third gear to fourth, he floored the accelerator trying to put some distance between him and the remaining three cars.

"Duke!"

Duke looked, noticing what Adam was pointing at. The stop gates were lowering on the draw bridge, warning drivers to slow down as the bridge opened to allow a ship through. "We're going to need a different way," Caleb called from the back. Duke furrowed his brow, tightening his grip as he leaned forward. "No we don't."

The squeal of tires now caused both vampire and human to gape in horror. Dukes eyes began to change, the white gradually becoming a solid magenta. "The bridge is rising you idiot," Wyatt exclaimed. Duke didn't answer, barreling through the gate as the car now ascended the road, the gap growing between the draw bridge.

Time seemed to slow as Duke jumped the gap. Both human and vampire screamed, the car hovering over the gap for a moment. For a moment, it seemed they wouldn't make before the car landed on the other side. Duke could feel the shock absorbers snap, the car bouncing before skidding to a stop on the other side. Turning back towards the jump, Duke watched as the SUVS tried to follow. It seemed though that Duke had timed the jump perfectly as one of SUVS slammed into the bridge, the car exploding on impact as the other two skid to a stop. Duke watched as the wreckage of the flaming car crashed to the river below before turning to the others. "Everyone okay?"

"Yeah we're good," Caleb replied. The sound of Ann retching all over the floor of the car, now drew a grimace from Caleb. "Ann puked all over the backseat. Ugh nasty, good luck cleaning that up."

Duke simply nodded, shifting the car into first as the group now drove back to S.P.E.A.R.
