Too exhausted to answer, Jenn used the last of her strength to swim to the shore and pull herself onto the warm sand. The others swiftly followed, settling onto the beach as they got their bearings.
"Babe, where are we?!" shrieked a voice that Jenn recognized as her girlfriend Olivia. Jenn turned to face Olivia. Her freckled face looked terrified, and her jeans and blouse were covered in sand. She appeared to have lost her hair scrunchy in the water, causing here blonde ponytail to come undone.
"I... I'm not sure, sweetie," Jenn answered. "It almost seems like some kind of weird magic."
"Magic isn't real, Jenn!" Kelly scoffed as she tried to rub the sand out of her light brown pixie cut.
"Then how are we here, honey?!" asked a brown-skinned girl in a leather jacket sitting next to Kelly. Jenn recognized this girl as Carmen, Kelly's Puerto Rican girlfriend. Carmen anxiously ran a hand through the stubble of the shaved sides of her undercut as she looked around the beach. "Magic is honestly the only explanation I can think of for this?"
"This still doesn't tell me WHERE this place fucking is," Kelly grumbled as she fished a piece of seaweed out of her cleavage.
"It almost looks like the scenery in my mermaid poster," Jenn remarked as she studied the landscape, readjusting her glasses and pushing her bushy red curls out of her face.
"Impossible!" Kelly said, shaking her head at her roommate. "How the fuck could we be inside that lame thing? It's just a cheap drawing."
"Wherever we are, this place sure is gorgeous," Olivia said, slowly beginning to smile.
"It really is," Carmen nodded. "I'd like to spend Spring Break at a place like this."
"Why bother?" Kelly joked, getting her good humor back. "If I know you, you'd get so goddamn wasted on tequila that you'd never remember being there."
"Hey, why are my legs starting to itch?" Jenn suddenly asked, pulling her jeans down to scratch.
"Hey, mine are too!" Carmen gasped, yanking off her cargo pants to scratch at her itching skin.
"Shit, now I'm feeling it!" Kelly grunted.
"Ugh, same!" Olivia said through gritted teeth.
"What the hell is happening?!" Kelly gasped.
"Like I should know?!" Jenn protested. "Just because it's my poster doesn't mean I know what it's doing to us!"
