A pickup truck moved through the compacted dirt, bumping a bit since the ground was uneven thanks to roots of nearby trees poking up from the ground. The truck would look very out of place since on either side of the truck where buildings which at least on the front facing part of the building took on a fantasy style approach with bright colors. In truth those buildings while simple where modern with the upper “floors” of the building being used for storage by the shops which ran out of the bottom floor. The shop owners who in truth made their living traveling from one Renaissance Festivals selling their items where doing the final preparations for the opening of the gates and the arrival of their customers.
The truck came to a stop outside of a medium size clearing, well it wasn’t an opening per say. A bunch of hedges which stood maybe five or six feet tall made a sort of maze which was actually more of a line which led toward a central area with a fountain. The area had multiple flowers and fantasy statues in the area. The central piece was a large statue of a man wearing a top hat with a cup of tea in his hands.
“Let’s get these up and back stage.” Announced the driver as he got out of the truck while the three other workers who had been riding in the bed of the truck got to work.
They unloaded the multiple crates which while large was actually very light. They carried them through the “maze” and into the clearing. They opened them to find two statues which seamed to be made of stained glass both of them fairies.
The first one was a sitting man, bare chested with what seamed to be clothing made out of grass or other natural items covering his privates. Even made out of glass it was clearly a handsome man, muscular but not over the top. Pointed ears graced the side of his face as two pairs of wings, four total came out of his back.
The other one was a woman, standing in almost a dancer position. Her thin arms raised above her head with one leg off the ground. Her dress was tight on the top but short and flowing on the bottom. A single pair of wings came out of her back and like the male statue she had pointed ears.
Both statues were only about 18 inches tall but with the stained glass stood out a lot.
“These look beautiful.” Said one of the workers as he looked at the multiple colors which began to dance across the ground when the sunlight went through the stained glass.
“I just hope someone doesn’t break them, while taking a selfie with them.” Stated the main worker as they went to work.
The first statue, the male fairy was placed on a large pedestal which looked like a large sunflower. This allowed the light which passed through the statue to cover the ground in rainbow light.
While the second one, the female fairy was placed across from him on the other side of the fountain about head high dancing on top of a massive lily flower
With both statues in place, the workers cleaned up and prepared to leave.
On the way out the main worker looked back at the area only to see that the female statue seamed to have moved into a different dance pose. While the male fairy’s wings seamed to have moved as well.
But that was impossible, he must be mistaken.
“Gates are opening.” Came a voice over his radio as the worker put his thoughts to the side and headed out.
Unknown to him that statues had moved, they had sensed a prefect candidate or candidates to leave humanity behind and become a fairy. Now they only had to wait.
