Jen arrived at school soon enough without any big happenings. Due to her troublesome morning she had to rush into class before meeting up with her friends. In the process she had ripped her skirt just a little on an unkempt bush in front of school. It was nothing too bad, since it was just the hem, but it still pissed her off. It was one of her favourite pieces. 'All because of that nerd', she thought to herself. As she entered the classroom, and quickly put her belongings down next to her, the teacher rasped.
"Well, now that everyone has arrived, it's time to hand in your homework."
'Oh crap', Jen thought. She had completely forgotten about it. She had spent all her time the day before hanging out with friends. And she already didn't have a great standing with this teacher. What to say, what to say...
"Smith."
The callout rattled Jen. While she was thinking up an excuse everyone had already turned their assignment in.
"Where is your assignment? Surely you have done it this time?"
There was some audible snickering in the classroom.
"Uhhmm", Jen muttered, "I suddenly had to bring my dog to the vet yesterday for an emergency. I really wanted to do it!"
"Hmph", the teacher shook his head. "You will turn it in tomorrow, understood? If you don't I'll have you fail this class. Your performance here is far removed from diligence."
Snickering again, this time a bit more silent.
In reality Jen didn't even have a dog, but that didn't matter if she could barely scrape by this class. 'It was just math anyway, who ever needs that in their day to day life?'
However it was another lie. Still slightly paranoid, Jen checked herself. Everything felt normal, for sure. She looked down at her body and once again saw nothing.
'That idiot. He kind of got under my skin with his stupid call. Maybe we should humiliate him again...'
Jen daydreamed for the rest of class. In fact nothing particular happened until lunch.
At lunch, Jen sat down with her friend group. The cafeteria wasn't the best, but today was thursday, so they served schnitzel. It was usually surprisingly good. Jen cut herself a piece and put it in her mouth, though it was somehow more tender than usual.
"Mmhh?"
"What is it?", asked Sophie, one of the other cheerleaders.
"Is it just me or is it... a bit more tender today?", Jen wondered.
"Haha... good joke Jen", Sophie dismissed and returned to the usual gossip alongside the others.
"But...?", Jen looked down at her plate. Sure enough, it's not like it looked or tasted any different than usual. Yet it was way past the usual inconsistency you'd get from school. Maybe her mind was just playing tricks. After all she was still a bit rattled from the call.
'God damn it. This isn't like me. It was just a bunch of nonsense. The curse isn't real. I need to get myself together.', she thought and went on until cheerleader practice, pushing the thoughts out of her mind.
