Jeff wasn't kidding about not having a plan, if he had a plan, he would have told Dean he was busy and sent him away or included him in it. Obviously. Dean's profile automatically generated while he was within range of the Device and Jeff found the sliver and several pimples and were able to remove them for Dean.
A few minutes later, Dean returned to find Jeff laying on the bed. Jeff began explaining the program and when finished Dean, rather than excitement or curiosity, expressed disbelief.
Jeff, rolled his eyes telling his friend that he removed the sliver, he cleaned up his pimply back and jawline, and the Chronivac works.
"Uh huh. then why aren't you like mega rich or something?"
Jeff rolled his eyes, "Who needs money and to mess with taxes, finance guys, and sales people when the device can literally conjure whatever I want directly. Teleport me and whoever I want to any destination. Change my life however I see fit. Oh, and leave none the wiser about the change happening."
Dean was taken aback, "Okay but if the machine could really do everything you say it can, you would be doing all that."
Jeff groaned, "Except that I'm not... If I make myself rich, I have to worry about gold-diggers. If I make myself in a relationship I need to change my history so I actually have feelings for them, not to mention I'd share the machine with them and then worry about them changing aspects of our life that I didn't want changed. I'd love to be an athlete, a systems engineer, a band groupie, a CEO and a million other things, but to really experience things I'd have to change my mentality and if I do that, Id likely get stuck in a life I only wanted to try."
"Well, I'd want to be rich." Dean scoffed.
"Knock yourself out. How you going to do it? Did you invent something? If so, when? Because if it took a lot of time to get off the ground we would have to hang out less and might not even be friends now. Not to mention your parents might have just dumped it into an account somewhere you can't touch till you're 18 or 25 or something. For your own safety of course... The other option is your parents are rich, but that would definitely change their relationships with each other and you... not to mention how your extended family treats or thinks about you. But hey, if you're willing to risk destroying your family because your parents disagree how to spend money they suddenly have, go for it."
"You are treating it like its real and so overthinking this, its a game, a toy, there's no way a company would invent this as advertised, hand it out to rando's, and not bother with age verification... This is obviously a prank or a setup of some kind, and the only way to find out what's really behind this is to use it for something big."
Jeff got up, mildly irritated and started typing in the computer. "Dude, this is basically a genie lamp, it can do what it says it can. But things are only what you expect when you keep the big features off. If you are trying to use reality alteration, you are already in hot water because we don't know how reality will be altered to make things happen, or you have to go into infinite detail to ensure it actually works as expected." A black hoodie popped into existence and fell on Dean's lap.
Dean however was undeterred, "I can control it, there's two of us now! So even if something happens to one of us the other can pull us back from the edge. Let me use it and then we can go do something else! Please!"
Jeff sighed. "I already said you could, but I'd be a crappy friend if I didn't warn you first. Also, be careful about the auto reversion feature... You don't want to be flying a plane or disarming a bomb and suddenly turn back into yourself."
Dean eyed Jeff, "What do you think I'd set up to be anywhere near a bomb when I could do literally anything?"
Jeff rolled his eyes. "Do you understand the point or not? If you change reality, you with your normal teenager skills may suddenly be in a situation you can't handle when the timeframe is finished."
"Yeah, yeah, I hear what you're saying. You can do anything, but you choose to be a buzzkill." Dean scoffed. "Ill be careful, now will you plan our next activity while I actually give the machine a test."
