Lirin hurriedly grabbed a quest to collect medicinal herbs on the outskirts of the forest. It wasn't glamorous, but it shouldn't be too dangerous, and it would provide her with income and exhibit her reliability to the guild. Shouldering her supplies and adjusting her brother's large armor, Lirin headed out on her own to complete the quest. It wasn't that she couldn't work with others to complete it, but if she took a party to complete such a basic quest, splitting up the reward would result in a loss.
Finally arriving at her destination, an area in the forest a good ways away from the town, Lirin started her work. Although it was a basic quest, finding the herbs was difficult since they were generally scattered apart and hidden by other plants. Engrossed in her task, Lirin only noticed the sun starting to drop when she had nearly completed the request. Looking quickly for the last herb, Lirin failed to adequately examine her surroundings.
Which is why she didn't react immediately when she pushed aside the branches to come face to face with a goblin. Luckily, it seemed just as shocked as she was, and failed to attack her before Lirin managed to puncture its heart with her dagger. Flopping to the ground, Lirin gasped for air. That was a close one. If the goblin had screeched out a warning, she could have been surrounded by--
Suddenly realizing the danger she was in, Lirin hurriedly got to her feet and dragged the dead goblin into a nook at the base of a large tree, then carefully erased all traces of her presence. Goblins only left their nests in groups, so either there was a group nearby, or she had just stumbled upon a nest. A nest this close to human habitation she would definitely have to report to the guild.
It was a shame, though, while she would get a token reward for reporting the nest, the real spoils would go to the adventurers who cleared out the goblins. If her brother was here, he could have taken part. Even a small share of goblin treasure could give Lirin a chance to put in a request for the guild to find her brother.
Once the idea popped into her head, Lirin couldn't shake it. She knew she should take things slowly, but what if... Lirin's hand gradually made it's way to the pouch containing the ring.
What if she didn't have to fight? What if she could just walk in and take what she wanted? Well, she couldn't, but couldn't a goblin? Before she could think twice, Lirin hurriedly stripped the goblin of its loincloth and totems. However, she hesitated upon realizing just how disgusting the goblin's outerwear was. Nevertheless, she couldn't just give up, not when she had a chance to get some real goblin treasure.
Steeling herself, Lirin stripped off her own armor and clothes, hiding them in another tree nook a little ways from the goblin body, then donned the goblin loincloth. Finally, she took out the ring and placed it on her finger.
Which became green and knobby, as her perspective shifted again as it had done the first time she wore the ring. However, this time, she became slightly shorter.
"Skreee..." Lirin breathed out in wonder, a strange noise coming from her altered voicebox. Well, now his voicebox, since the goblin was a male. Examining her pot-bellied form, Lirin began to wonder if she should really do what she was thinking.
