Dan's dad leaned over the fence of the pig pen and shouted over to a man in overalls. "Morning there, sir. You wouldn't happen to know who owns this farm would you?"
"Yep, that would be me. Dave Roberts, here. Farm's been in the family for generations". He looked at Dan. "Mighty fine stallion you got there!"
"That's what I was here for, actually. Me and the wife raised him from birth, but he's getting a bit big for us now."
"How old is he?"
"Err..." Since Dan had the lifespan of a human, the idea was to change his farm every few years to avoid suspicion. Horses obviously didn't live as long as humans, and so most people would half-expect him to die after a while.
"He's 6."
"6? He must have had a growth spurt, most growth is done in the first couple of years."
"Yeh, it was pretty surprising." Dan's dad was growing concerned.
"How much do you want for him?" The farmer asked, looking around Dan.
"However much you value him at." Dan was embarrassed. He was being sold off like a piece of meat.
"$800."
"Okay, that's a deal. Could I just ask, though, what exactly you plan on doing with him?"
The Farmer took out his cheque book. "He'll mainly be for show, put him where the visitors can see, maybe we'll sell him on."
"Well if you do plan on selling him, make sure you tell us, eh? We would like to know he's O.K."
"That's fine, just give me some contact details."
While the men did buisiness, Dan was taken to his new home in the stables. He sat down in the hay, surrounded by other horses.
