Dan awoke one day to a bang. He looked around the stable. All the other horses were gone. He got up on his hind legs and peered over the gate. All the animals were being loaded onto trucks. He then saw Farmer Dave walking towards him with a cellphone to his ear. Dan quickly reassumed the "horse" position.
"Sorry, kiddo", the farmer said, hanging up the phone, "I can't get a reply at your folks home. I need to tell them what's happening, but your my horse, and I paid for you, so I'm getting my money back." 'What does he mean?' Dan thought.
"I know you don't understand this", the farmer said, taking Dan out onto the main walkway and spraying him down quickly with a hose, "but your going off to the slaughterhouse. I can get a quick $250 off your meat for dog food and another $100 for the hooves. Make a good lot of glue." He looked down at Dan and frowned. "I'm really sorry, kiddo. I'm sellin' up."
