"I haven't had a lot of time to think about it," I responded. "So far I haven't seen anything to tell me I can't do something, so I figure anything goes."
"Well," she said, showing a stern, responsible look on her face, "you can't just think of yourself. I know you're not mean-spirited, so I am sure you are going to do something for the greater good with this."
"Oh, I intend to," I replied. "I just don't know how to go about doing that yet."
She smiled and said, "Well, let's put our heads together and figure out how to do that. I would think we should start with world peace. Or maybe no more global warming."
"How 'bout no more money?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" she asked back.
"Like Star Trek," I said. "The people of Earth work toward common goals and the betterment of mankind. So because money doesn't drive people, there's nothing to really bicker with each other about."
She nodded and didn't say anything for a moment. "Yea, but," she then said, "there'd still be differences in religion and race and stuff that would put people at odds with each other. And you can't go making everyone look the same," she added.
"Yea, you're right about that," I said, rubbing my chin.
"Sheesh," she sighed. "This is a bit harder than I thought it would be. Maybe we should start out with something small then."
"Good idea," I said. "Except that there's nothing on a small scale that can benefit more than a few people at a time." We both seemed to have so many good ideas rolling around in our heads, but even with the ring's power we had no way of knowing how to administer it. "We could probably wish for ourselves to know how to do everything, but--"
Before I could finish my thought, she did it for me. "But that would be too easy," she said. "Even with this ring, I don't think we're supposed to know everything." She let out a huge sigh again. "Wow, this is hard."
"Why don't we start with ourselves then?" I asked.
"How so?" she answered.
I replied, "Let's figure out how to make life better for us, and then maybe we can get a better idea of how to put some grand plan into being."
"OK, I'm game," she said. She didn't say anything for a minute but kept staring at me. "Any time you want to hit me with your idea," she said, putting her hands up in the air.
