Amphibia made her way through the swamp towards the swamp witch's cottage. She had heard that the witch specialized in transformation magic, particularly where amphibians were involved. She found the cottage, made of mossy logs, and knocked on the door. A short, plain woman opened the door.
"Ah, Amphibio's fishwife," she croaked in the language of the gillpeople. "Come in." Amphibia walked in and set down her bag, which held her latest spawn of six eggs. "What do you want from me?"
"I want to be something else," Amphibia said firmly. The witch cackled.
"Obviously! No one seeks me out otherwise! What do you want to be?"
"A human male."
"And what do you have to pay me with for such a powerful spell?" the witch asked. Amphibia gestured to the eggs. The witch looked them over. "Hmm. I could get good money from these. But not enough to turn you into a human male."
"What can you do for them, then?" Amphibia asked. She would have brought more eggs, but the last spawn hatched overnight.
"I can get you halfway there. You can become male or you can become human." The witch grinned. "Your choice."
